So what you're saying is, as long as you personally get something positive out of it, it's okay for a site to take advantage of their pageviews and readers by inserting advertising that's deceptively labeled as news.

The post is clearly labeled that it's financially supporting the site. It is not deceptively labeled. And yes, I certainly will "take advantage" of the site's pageviews and readers to generate revenue for the site in a non-deceptive way.

I'm quite cognizant of the issues surrounding the line between editorial content and sponsor content, and this falls well within ethical bounds for me. If you can't accept it, you are within your right to stop visiting the site, but I think the vast majority of visitors continue to trust the site despite occasional (clearly labeled) promotional bundles we participate in.

i actually think writeroom is a great idea. Sometimes I open up my terminal and use VIM to get some ideas down, but that sucks because it doesn't really support word wrap and stuff. At least I haven't bothered to figure out how to configure it to.

Like I said, i like the idea. Its back to basics. I wouldn't pay $24 for it. But if it were free, i'd likely find uses for it.

it's a nice app, for sure... it just seems like it could be a free app based on how text-book simple the development for it is. i agree the bundle is a good idea...

There is a free version of WriteRoom. WriteRoom 1.0 is available for free at the bottom of the following link:

It has the basic writeroom features, although misses some of the new fancy ones.

While this is quite clearly an advertisement, it is also quite clearly labeled as such. I dont think there is anything wrong with how MacRumors has displayed it. And yes, they are well within their rights to enjoy the fruits of their labors.

However, quite separately from all that, I wish MR had not supported MacHeist by providing them with this publicity. The guys behind it are complete snake oil salesmen, who have screwed many people over (just drop by MyDreamApp sometime). I would wait for them to live up to some of their promises before giving them any publicity personally.
