I'm in the market for a Mini. Need some help:

    1. Is a mini update imminent?
    2. If yes, is the update worth passing over current models and waiting?
    3. Is the 2.4 with 8GB better than going with the 2.6 with 4GB? I have an either or budget.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you?

    For your first question: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/

For your second question: depends on what you're using it for. But with signs pointing to a refresh sooner rather than later, you might as well wait unless you absolutely need it now.

For question #3: Are you pricing using Apple's memory prices? DON'T. Buy your own memory. It will be much cheaper, and you may be able to get a 2.6 with 8GB!

    My views:
1: Imminent, yes, but what exactly does that mean? Latest rumour is that it's going to launch about when Lion does, so somewhere in July. I believe that one tbh. Don't go blind on the buyersguide.macrumors.com. It's an indication, but a vague one.
2: For everyday use (browsing, watching video's up to 1080p) both the mini's you said will do. Make sure you don't go below 4GB though, if you want to make the switch to Lion. If what you're going to do with it is graphics-heavy, the updated mini probably isn't better at all, plain CPU will be much faster though.
    3. As the above poster said, upgrading RAM yourself is alot cheaper and really easy. Are you sure you'll need 8GB though?

Thanks guys. So if I am hearing you correctly, I'd be better to order the 2.6ghz with the minimum 2GB of memory and then buy the additional memory and install it myself? Should work. Recommendations on where to purchase the memory? Can you mix the memory, i.e. get the 2GB from them and then add a 4GB stick for 6GB or other combinations? Any other tips or suggestions?

Crucial.com is a good place to start for memory shopping.

But yes, it's best to order whatever computer you decide fits you best and upgrade the RAM later. With the Mac Mini, all you have to do is unscrew the bottom panel and pop the new RAM in. It might actually be the smartest to see if you can live on the 2 gigs and the order RAM later (though honestly, 2 gigs is not much. 4 is the sweet spot).

Definately wait for the update. The processors used now are really out of date. Unless you can find a smokin hot deal, wait.
