I have my GM in my purchase list but cannot downloaded due to my unsupported mbp...

I have a question, is it possible to follow your instructions to install Sierra on a Mid 2009 MBP that is currently running El Capitan, withOUT erasing the drive? (like a standard upgrade)
Scroll up to the top of the screen, beside your ID, there's a mail icon. Click that, then click on Start a New Conversation, then put dosdude1's id in the Participants box, pick a title and click on Start a Conversation.

Make sure you do a backup first.
. I did and it merged the desktops of my two mac's (It put everything from the second Mac into a folder - I simply moved them back out after).
Since I was registered for the MacOS beta Program (even tho my macPro is technically unsupported), I got an email today offering me access to the Sierra Gold master.
Its a 4.7 gB download, took a while, rebooted and asked if I wanted to install on Macintosh HD (the 240GB SSD I installed in Jan). I did NOT wipe my drive to install it - it started just like a regular upgrade. After the reboot, the install continued - tho it looked like it crashed at one point ... I forced a reboot and everything seems to be fine. Took maybe 20 minutes, all told.
Just as an FYI - I have done no patches since I flashed the NVRam in June to show as a macPro 5,1.
I have hot-rodded my machine with the SSD boot drive, a faster hex core processor, faster Ram, and an upgraded (but still standard) videocard, the ONLY change I made after flashing the NVRam to show it as macPro 5,1 was to swap out the original wifi/bluetooth card with a modern card.
This is very amazing - thanks for ALL the support in this thread!

No, you can just install it to the drive containing your current install, and it'll do an upgrade.

Thank you dosdude1 for the 4.0.1 update to your macOS Sierra Patcher Tool. (4.0.2. wasn't available almost eight hours ago when I began my GM installation.)
I am happy to report that I now have macOS Sierra GM installed on the internal drive of my early 2009 iMac, on which I am now typing in Firefox.
There wasn't a single glitch in the entire installation process from start to finish.
As noted in my previous post, I started the installation at 2:00 AM our local time -- or GMT+10, meaning it was 12 noon on the East Coast of the USA -- when I erased one of my external USB partitions, to be used as my GM USB installer drive.
Precisely following the instructions on your Patcher Tool web page, from that point, until the GM was actually installed on my iMac's internal hard drive, took about 45 minutes.
On the final reboot, I chose to migrate all of my personal data etc. That took an additional 6.5 hours, which is why I haven't signed in here until now to give you some feedback.
I am pretty confident that, except for one app which was already having window drawing issues under the final beta, all of my apps remain compatible with the GM.
I'll be downloading version 4.0.2 of the Patcher Tool for future reference, but for now, I don't need it.
Thanks again for all your hard work in providing these tools to us "renegades".

Is there anyway to make this patch work on a macbook pro 2007 ? I saw the processor is not compatible but I didnt understand why this happens. Noob here. I really need it to use xCode 8 and Swift 3 :/ . I dont want to try a hackintosh again. haha.
The CPU doesn't support the necessary instruction sets to run the Sierra kernel.

Even though I knew from online reading that my machine was unsupported, I thought, "Hmmm . . . Well, maybe Apple decided to be a little more merciful and include a few more Mac models."
So, I jumped through the hoops, logged into my Apple account, got the redeem code, launched the App Store app, and then was told that Sierra could not be downloaded or installed on this early 2009 iMac. So much for that.
So a short bit ago, lo and behold, I receive a similar email invitation from Apple for the GM release.
Oh gosh . . . again? Okay . . . I'll be game. I went through the same process as before, and you guessed it. Apple won't let me download or install the GM.

Just out of curiosity, would it be a problem to use the patched USB installer to clean install Sierra on a Mac that is actually natively supported? This way I wouldn't need two versions of the installation disk, one for supported Macs and one for unsupported Macs.
Yeah. Just run the installer but don't run the post install tool.
