I upgraded to 15.7.3 but still have not updated Safari. I see it now offers me 26.2 Safari. Has anyone tried this version yet?

I'v been on the 26.2 beta for a while on 15.7.2, and everything has been fine for me. No problems with iCloud Private Relay either.

Safari 26.2 on 15.7.3 here. It’s definitely better than before and finally usable.

That said, there’s still a really annoying issue: if I type too fast (for example fa for Facebook) and press Enter before the history suggestion shows up, Safari does a Google search for “fa” instead of going to facebook.com. It then saves “fa” in history, which makes address bar suggestions even worse over time.

Honestly, this kind of thing is making me consider dropping Safari and switching to Firefox.

I know a bunch of people don't want to take the full Tahoe plunge, but in case you do, I can confirm that Safari is rock solid again under MacOS 26.2.

That doesn't sound good. I type very fast but still can't beat the faster response from Safari 18.6. Would be a problem for me too if I had upgraded to Safari 26.2.

Is it possible to move from Safari 26.1 to 26.2 on OS 15.7.2? Or do I need to move the OS to 15.7.3 first?

don't even need 15.7.2

My main problems are Microsoft Teams displaying an empty page after not opening the tab for 15 minutes and Safari unable to connect to WiFi/opening pages for two minutes after standby. Only solution is to quit Safari and reopen or wait.

So Safari 26.2 fixed the sluggish problem with the address bar and a few other issues, but I've noticed a new issue: tabs that are in the background (even tabs in other tab groups) can run constantly at about 15-25% CPU time if you have viewed them at some point.

Looking at the Web Inspector, it appears as though the tabs are being "repainted" repeatedly. So I suspect if a website does something occasionally in the background, like refreshing its contents, Safari 26.2 then gets stuck in a loop repainting it unnecessarily.

If you then switch back to one of these tabs, the CPU usage of the tab stops again as it stops repainting it over and over.

I first noticed this because my MacBook Pro was getting warm and I opened Activity Monitor and saw 5 tabs running at about 20%.

The Safari 26.x releases are the buggiest releases of Safari I've ever experienced. How does a bug like this slip through testing?

26.2 is sluggish slow, clicking links may take several clicks to get a response.
Im surprised at apple allowing Tahoe out the door. It's awful.
Hate it with its wasted space rounded corners and its slow as snot.

I have finally decided to give up on Safari. I am fed up with laggy and other behaviour of Safari 26.* on macOS 15.7.* and am making the jump to Helium which claims to be a light Chromium browser, but without an google-isms. So far so good. Definitely more snappy.

I've been using Safari 26.2 on macOS 15.7.3 on an 2018 intel MBP and am not having the issues others mention in the first few pages of this thread - just sharing in case someone has been putting it off like I had.
