No - try holding your arm up and touching the screen continuously for two minutes. Then another two. Then another. Go ahead, I'll wait while your shoulder files for divorce.
Your scenario is as ridiculous as it sounds. You can put your arm down after pressing something. No need for your 2+2 mins or mythical arm rest.

You know machinery workers have been using panels with buttons all day long for years and years?
And look, buttons are not all on the lower panel like a keyboard.

I’m hoping Apple don’t add touch to the screen, but instead add SCREEN to the TOUCH-pad. Would be so much better for anything (handwriting, drawing, signing, etc) that would actually benefit from touch-based input.
Hardly a deal breaker for me though (my 2018 needs replacing, plus redesign, OLED, M6Pro, etc.)

The Ultra may be the best opportunity for the Pro to become the literally pro version of the MacBook. Just a work horse, no touch, no dynamic Island, no too-thin-a-design, no ultra-fancy screen (but keep the nano coating). Just your everyday powerfull workhorse. And maybe bring in some additional thunderbolt ports, a UTP port and maybe cellular with eSim. All the fancy stuff, all the coolness, all the eye candy sweetness can go to the Ultra then, so people can show-off with their MacBook Ultra. I will smile and nod, and continue doing my job on my Pro.

Oh, brilliant logic. Truly. I'm clearly talking about that one casual tap you give your iPad when you feel like it. You absolute genius. No - try holding your arm up and touching the screen continuously for two minutes. Then another two. Then another. Go ahead, I'll wait while your shoulder files for divorce. And thanks, but I'll pass on the "strengthening exercises." My arms work fine. In fact, they work well enough that I could swipe you clean back into your mother's womb with a single punch. But sure - tell me more about my workout routine.
I don't see how this is an issue. I work upstairs most of the day but some evenings I like to finish up downstairs and prepare the work for the next day. I'll connect an external keyboard to my iPad and do that from the living room table.

That process usually involves typing some mails, work in Pages, input in Numbers, etc. Having that keyboard connected is just a tool to make writing easier, but not every input goes through the keyboard. Sometimes I'll just tap the iPad to do things. The input becomes a mix of touch and type.

I don't see how this will be different with this Ultra machine. Sounds like the screen/macOS will become touch enabled not touch obliged. It is up to users to decide what input they use for each interaction. Tapping the screen continuously for 2 minutes is not something any person in the right frame of mind will do. Why would you?

I think we’re not too far from MacOS and iOS and iPadOS being indistinguishable from each other. I’m not sure we’ll ever see a combining of the OSes (although it’s possible), but we may see a new OS come down the pipe that is used at least for iPad and Mac. If the MacBook Ultra proves popular, then I think we see it sooner than any of us realize. It’s obvious Apple wants to make “1 OS to rule them all”.

WWDC gave zero indication that is happening they ignored iPadOS.

I don't think touch mac will happen. Also those 3 hints ...are pretty weak. Foldable iPhone..yes, we got new APIs for resizable UI, so foldable is now certainly possible. Touch mac? eh, not so much. Also most of the touch areas are still pretty small. But I guess we will see soon enough. 😉

Funny thing is, if I recall correctly the fastest processor on the Powerbook was a Motorola G4 which wasn't very powerful at all. It did however stay cool and quiet.
Yes it’s true while the Motorola G4 in my PowerBook wasn’t a speed demon, yet looking at the big picture of that era it’s the PowerBook name that was a brilliant choice by Apple.

Concurrently my ThinkPad T42 was a pretty good Windows laptop with a stellar keyboard but the name was unremarkable.

Fast forward to today, my 16” M4 Max MacBook Pro serves as my primary personal laptop of choice, fast, efficient, reliable and thoroughly enjoyable.
