With all that white I will definitely be keeping macOS in dark mode.

I didn’t see any pictures of Dark Mode though. I wonder how it looks.

I wonder if Big Sur on Apple Silicon is still Unix based, i.e. with all the Unix underpinnings and terminal access.

Yes, from the pictures they showed, Terminal is still there. iOS is Unix too and has been running on ARM for years.

Ugh, now comes the anxiety, worrying whether my workflow will be able to move to the next big release unimpeded.

As one particular example, I use Terminal a lot and have applescripts to control and open terminal windows for various things. I always wonder if Apple is going to break that.

So many things. I'm glad I have a spare Macbook Pro to try this all on once I can get my hands on the developer beta.

I’m a desktop power user but I do love my iPad Pro so I’m kind of torn on this one. This literally opens the gate towards a touchscreen Mac so yeah...

I'm not a fan of all the icons being inside of a little square. Shape plus color in the dock are a god way to know at a glance where/what an app is. (I know safari is round, notes is squarish, etc). I already have trouble finding apps on my iPhone because of this squared button icons look. With just color changes everything blurs together for me.

Maybe a better question is when will they enable a dev mode on iOS/iPadOS with terminal access.

Looks like my 2012 Mac Mini quad-i7 server edition and dual SSDs will no longer be officially supported. Machine is still super-fast, so maybe I'll just transition over Windows 10 or just hope that an unsupported install patch is released. Sad :-(

Curious on how a 2013 MBP and 2013 MBA can run Big Sur, but they dropped the 2013 iMac's.
Very strange. They all have Haswell based CPUs so it is surprising to see the 2013 iMac left out.

Sad to see My late 2012 iMac dropped, but expected. Although I’d imagine it can run macOS better than those 2013 MBA/MBPs.

I can't believe they don't have a pull down for notifications/dashboard yet on the Mac. Especially now that they revamped the look and feel much more like the iphone. It's annoying that it's only in the top right. I should be able to drag my mouse fast to the top menu bar and then do a two finger pull down and then the notifications quickly pop up over the middle of the screen and then I can quickly flick back up to have them removed. They have expose, so they should really be able to implement this so easily.

Without it being faster, I won't be using it still

Exactly what I expected. Horrible flat iOS look. They’re not even trying at this point.
It's interesting because on the one hand as you say things have gone flatter and more iOS-like - which is a good or bad thing depending on your taste - but then in some areas like the dock icons they've done the opposite and gone more skeuomorphic. So it's now a kind of dodgy looking hybrid of two different design languages. It may grow on me but on first glance I'm not a huge fan overall.

The new UI is ugly AF (just my opinion tho!). It's rather inconsistent looking and it wastes a ton of space. Why did they retain the top menu bar if the increase the hight of the windows title bar?!
