I thought that 2015 MacBook 12 Retina was also on the list. Can anyone confirm? I forgot where I saw the list but it clearly showed that the 2015 MacBook had sidecar support.

In another thread on Macrumors ealier today. I read it as well, it's incorrect.
You need a Skylake chip to do some of the magic, the 2015 models don't have it, EXCEPT an iMac model.

The thread you read it in was here: https://www.macrumors.com/2019/06/05/apple-sidecar-app-has-touch-bar/
and they have since edited it.

MBP 13", Early 2015. No chance.

Not really disappointed as I have never wanted to use this feature.
Agree. If your an artist, this could be useful--but you might be better off running
native ios art apps. If your liking this as a second screen, I don't really see much
benefit in lugging around a 12.9" screen. I carry a 12.9" ipad with my laptop because
I need to draw diagrams: its heavy with both!

I was really looking forward to this. But as I've said above, my mid 2015 MB Pro is out.
I've tried Duet, runs like crap. Fortunately, I got my money back.
Haven't tried Luna, though...

Super excited for this... I tried Duet and it just wasn't good enough.. strange resolutions, laggy etc. Had always planned on trying Luna but now I don't have to :)

I have a Macbook Pro 15" (2016) - officially a MacBookPro13,3
Also have an iPad Pro 10.5" from 2017 (512gb, Wifi + Cellular, if that mattered)

Both running the new betas.

Have tried multiple restarts, etc., and cannot get it to work over wireless. Have not tried wired.
Correction - I had bluetooth turned off on my iPad for some reason. As soon as I turned it on, it worked - and holy **** is this cool!!!

To be clear, the cut-off here is not "newer Macs" per se. It's AMD & IG only. They are telegraphing that all NVIDIA GPU support has come to an end, and we can expect more & more features to exclude these Macs. Coincidentally, this also cuts off the last MacBook Pros that weren't complete garbage.

Up to their usual tricks. If anything like Handoff/continuity a few years ago, they'll claim it's a hardware thing but it'll be possible to "hack" it on (so disproving it)

Well darn. My 2015 retina MacBook didn’t make the cut. I mean it’s no powerhouse but if a 2016 model can run it then I think mine should too.

Oh well, maybe it’s time to think about an upgrade in the next year or two.

This is sensible. From a developer's standpoint, it can be limiting to building these new functions if you have to account for old tech.

Look at that picture and think about how dumb this is. Why draw on the iPad, when the giant trackpad sits there on the computer, useless for the Pencil?

Witness the design bankruptcy of the hack, Jony Ive.

Thus why I clearly called it a “fossil”. Lol
Sorry if I mistook your meaning! But many here are complaining about not getting to ride in the sidecar.
There is no reason computers of 5+ years can't be productive, but I can't understand why posters here
assume that Apple must support new features on older computers

Most cutoffs are three years old or more....hardly newer - unless you need a good title for people.

In my world a pc is virtually dead at three. Surprised it goes back that far.

Are there any hardware limitations for this, or are Apple just taking the piss?

The Mac Pro that you can go into the stores and buy right now isn't supported!

you mean the old Mac Pro? Why don't they just do an over the air hardware upgrade, Geez Apple! (umm, that's a joke)
[doublepost=1559857719][/doublepost]lets go all Rat B$%^tard on Apple, something not supported in the first developer Beta! The shame! BTW, the list is not an official statement from Apple

I think this will change, i wouldn't be surprised if people find a way to *enable* it ;)

Disappointing, very disappointing. My mid 2015 15 inch MB Pro is out, then. Don't tell me an i7 and a dedicated Radeon graphics card can't handle Sidecar...

Yep, and no way in hell am I upgrading my mid 2015 retina MBP. The current MBP's are complete junk (I'm very curious to see if the second hand price of them becomes near worthless once the warrantees expire and the realisation of the repair cost kicks in).

On a positive note, the new Mac Pro's seem to be top notch at first glance (let's see how they hold up in real life though, as Apple's hardware testing team are clearly incompetent, going by the MBP's keyboards and screens, etc.), so that gives me some hope that the next iteration of MBP might actually be a good machine.

Maybe, just maybe, they will make a MBP that is actually PRO, and make it:
- a mm or two (or whatever it takes) thicker
- bring back a working keyboard
- strengthen the screen connector
- bring back ports
- reduce the track pad size a little
- bring back function keys (or at least make the touchbar an option, instead of mandatory)
- bring back separate, interchangeable, repairable, recyclable, and upgradeable components
- increase the battery size to the maximum allowable on commercial aircraft (an extra 33% IIRC)
- and remove the screen bezels and thus change the size from 13/15" to 14/16".
Did I forget anything?

And yeah sure, for those who don't want that, there's the MB/MBA (what a confused mess that is) for the non-PROs who want thinner and lighter in exchange for less functionality (and, of course, make them 12/14" with the 12 smaller than the current 12, and the 14 the same size as the current 13).
