They have been using wavy colors or abstract as the default since macOS 11 Big Sur. The last time they used a realistic photo was macOS 10.15 Catalina. And now we have this, but not as the default.
Every OS since Sonoma has had an abstract wallpaper at WWDC and a real photo wallpaper when it's fully released in September.

Looks nice. I've not changed wallpaper in about 18 years but it is cool that they put effort into this sort of thing ... just need to bring the same enthusiasm to fixing bugs and liquid glass!
Woah, haven't changed in 18 years!? I change mine like 18 times a week. 😂

Lol yeah it was from interfacelift.com back in the day. Sunset over Moorea. That site ended up leaking account details, and now the same image shows up in searches as being at wallpaperflare.com, which reports suggest is also incredibly dodgy and malwarey. I guess they tempt you with pretty pictures, and that's why we can't have nice things!

But yeah I have the same photo on phone background and lock screen, as my background on XBOX, and as a fake background on Zoom 🙂
