I almost always wait until the first .1 to update my Mac. It’s just not worth it. Recently made the mistake of updating my iPhone to 17.4 and it broke the AirPlay connection to my girlfriend’s TV.

This is impossible for me to do on my Work provided MacBook Pro.

They don't upgrade to a new MacOS version until it reaches xx.2. But then once it's at the point, you get upgraded, and upgrades are managed by IT. Your computer will auto install and force a reboot to install any new MacOS update if you don't complete it within a day or two.

the bluetooth for my mouse on mac mini m1 has been cursing skipping when moving across screens

The entire Jet Brains ecosystem runs on Java. So many (most?) software developers should say away for 14.4

It seems that anyone who uses a USB drive that is not directly plugged into the Mac needs to wait a while before upgrading.

These bugs are so fundamental that I wonder if Apple is even bothering to test their releases
I use IntelliJ all day every day and updated to 14.4 right when it came out. IJ has crashed once and I didn't think much of it. Given the infrequency I've seen issues, it's one of those things that could be easy to miss in testing.

I'm a Java developer who also installs the macOS betas. I haven't seen the Java termination in either my application or the Java-based IDE I use (Netbeans). As I'm always running one or the other, it must be a fairly obscure/rare use case that causes this.

beating a dead horse but I am really tired of the quality of software Apple is putting out. I remember back in snow leopard era each new OS was more refined and only got better with updates.

Not sure if it’s a result of the agile and scrum software dev process or just the lack of testing. Either way I’m sure cost cutting for profits is the root cause.

Apple, you had one job
With the complexity that an OS like this has, no 100% test coverage and massive QA team will catch/prevent all bugs. That’s usually where the end users come in as they will “test” every imaginable and unimaginable software & hardware combination possible.

However, the crucial part is for Apple to then actually follow up on end user bug reports. And I think that’s where they often drop the ball. Most of the time there is not even a confirmation that the bug report did not just end up in the void…

I’ve not been able to effectively AirPlay from my MBAir M2 for a while now. Using my iPhone seems to work.., which has been a weird transition for me. Anyone else having AirPlay issues from Music?

I haven't even booted my Mac Mini in over a year. I may need to boot up to install and check this out. If it screws stuff up, oh well, I don't ever use an actual computer at home anyway. (other than my gaming PC for gaming only) But if it has some cool, new stuff, it may give me a reason to boot it up more often.

I don't need CUPs for my Mac. I got one for Christmas.

No issues. Every time I have to update it reminds me how glad I am that I gave Windows the boot. It has always been a smooth experience for me though installing Office was horrible.
