Big problems with Office 365/Exchange with Apple Mail

After upgrading to 14.4 my Office365 account stops working after two days. I deleted that account, but it is not possible to add this account anymore. When I try to add a new Exchange Account in the system setting to use this account for Apple Mail it takes very long and then you get the message "Passwort wrong". There is also missing the popup window to authorise my Microsoft account :-(

My account is ok....when I use Outlook instead, everything is fine.

It looks like Somona 14.4 is a terrible update :-(

I have severe issues setting up my company‘s O365 account in macOS 14.4

It won’t recognize user/password anymore and I am not forwarded to Microsoft login screen anymore.

Anyone else experiencing this?!

Edit: It seems that I am not alone. 😬

I have a tradition of reinstalling on a clean system especially when I haven't done it for a long time, so 14.4 is the most buggy version of such a clean install. The problems arose already when I simply at the first boot did not appear Menu Bar and I just could not even open it in any way (I can imagine the pleasure if it happened at the first turn on of the computer) and not to mention the failure of some software, which simply stopped at me even start, for example Theine, which works as elementary as possible and never broke just from updating. This time I am very disappointed.

Sonoma stills has a serious bug with PCI mounted SSDs in the 2019 and later Mac Pro. There is a huge message thread in the Mac Pro forum group.

I almost always wait until the first .1 to update my Mac. It’s just not worth it. Recently made the mistake of updating my iPhone to 17.4 and it broke the AirPlay connection to my girlfriend’s TV.
I'm a bit confused by your statement, both this and the iOS you mention are .4 updates which is multiple versions past .1. They only occasionally create x.y.1 level releases, so not sure how your statement applies to this context.

I updated two computers to 14.4 when it first came out and haven't had any of the issues despite being a heavy java user and done a moderate amount of printing for tax season. So the issues list while not rare, are also seemingly not universal.

Sonoma 14.4 on an M2 MacBook Air and an M1 Mack Mini. Zero issues to report. I do use a docking station with the MacBook Air, don't use any audio production equipment, have O365 running as well as ever and print to multiple printers without issues.

MacOS 14.4 is obviously a rushed update. Its release was forced to coordinate with the release of iOS 17.4, which in turn was a rushed update to meet EU March 6th deadline for DMA compliance.

Not to blame the EU. This is entirely Apple’s fault. The DMA compliance deadline was known for years but Apple didn’t seriously work on the necessary iOS open App Store update until the very last minute. And then Apple decided that they HAD to tie the release of MacOS 14.4 to the release of iOS 17.4.

With the complexity that an OS like this has, no 100% test coverage and massive QA team will catch/prevent all bugs. That’s usually where the end users come in as they will “test” every imaginable and unimaginable software & hardware combination possible.

However, the crucial part is for Apple to then actually follow up on end user bug reports. And I think that’s where they often drop the ball. Most of the time there is not even a confirmation that the bug report did not just end up in the void…
This makes no sense, everyday we are getting more and more frustrated with those bugs, older bugs being ignored while they keep pushing useless features (yes I am talking about you Stage Manager and new emojis). Don't get me wrong my 14.1 is full of bugs but it's not as bad as those introduced.

Reason no. 1:

It looks like a toyOS, behaves like a toyOS and now it even works like a broken toyOS.
Gonna have to agree with you here. I love your avatar pic and it's relevant to this discussion because I wholeheartedly believe that 10.8 Snow Leopard was THE BEST macOS version ever made. On the surface it had all the visually satisfying refinements and animations introduced in Leopard the year before, except now they were much smoother thanks to all the work Apple did under the hood in the year since then, such as their Grand Central Dispatch innovation for 64-bit processors.

Remember when yearly macOS updates used to be jam packed with "oohs" and "ahhs"? Those were the days...

My issue is that my external drive icons move around after the Mac wakes from sleep or is restarted.
After this is a know issue, Apple should fix it as soon as possible.

It's got so bad I really don't follow the coverage, sorry BREATHLESS coverage, about another service pack of emojis.

Even if I see a feature mentioned in a headline, inevitably it doesn't get more than a meh, and why get excited as history shows there's a good chance it will be buggy, limited or need the latest shiny.

Just give me damn stability and get to a baseline you can be proud of. Emoji users can wait.

And get your damn own core apps fully on PadOS and workable with Apple Silicon too. Embarassing or what...

macOS updates weren’t yearly under Jobs’ tenure, and I think that’s part of the problem today

one of my third party porsche design mouse stopped working after "update" to big sur or even earlier. very careful with updating since then.

Was there a specific reason or this or just an abundance of caution?
I’m not in the industry, my impression is that it’s two things. One is caution - if you have a Mac controlling audio for a live show, it needs to be proven and rock solid, night after night after night. And if you’re in the studio, time is money; you don’t want to be wasting time troubleshooting issues. Go with what worked last time.

The other is that evidently audio software makers (particularly plugin makers) are notorious for taking ages to update for compatibility with the latest OS. And apparently macOS updates frequently break these things. So audio professionals again will go with the old version that is proven to work. I imagine many of these systems are off the internet anyway (they probably should be if they’re smart), so security would be much less of a concern if so.

In multiple concerts I attended last month, I remember noticing MacBook Pros with the backlit Apple logo - when were these last sold, and can any of them even run Sonoma natively? They’re still in use because they have a years long track record of just working. Any new OS or hardware is always a bit of a gamble in that regard.

I have issue with macOS Ventura 13.6.5 and read the solution is to upgrade to macOS Sonoma, getting 14.3.1 now. In the meantime, I update my work Mac Book Pro (M2 Pro) to 14.4 once available and so far so good.

I do audio production as a hobby but I'm a club DJ -- I made the mistake of updating to Catalina when it came out, before the developer said it was safe, and I had my entire computer become unresponsive during a peak hour of my set on a Friday night. Now I wait at least 3 months AFTER Serato DJ tells us it's compatible with the latest macOS. I think I finally put Sonoma on my M1 Macbook Pro in December.

Or maybe just go back to Ventura.

I was afraid of this. I believe this is the last Intel Capable OS before Apple Goes all Apple Silicon

What A great Pre Planned Move For Apple to Force Mac Intel users to buy New Apple Silicon Macs Because the Last Intel Capable OS is a bloody buggy mess. on purpose. To sell more hardware.

What's not yet mentioned is that launchctl kickstart is not available for users anymore unless SIP is disabled, causing many commands, even built-in ones, like sudo nfsd restart to break and not work. As previously it was adviced to restart services using launchctl kickstart. Many scripts and development environments rely on this.
Use the bootin/bootout equivalents. I believe that’s been best practice for some time anyway.

Another big issue (for me at least): Sharing-only users will not appear in the SMB sharing options anymore. I wanted to create a share for Infuse on my Apple TV, something I've done plenty of times before, and it just doesn't work anymore. The user I had created for this purpose is just not visible in the SMB settings.
