GeekBenchmarks have significantly improved across board in this RC (25E241) compared to 26.4b4.

Performance on CPU is back to equal that of Sequoia 15.4, GPU (Metal) is 2% better, and AI roughly same.

[as tested 2 days apart on 16" M1 Max]

Am encouraged that I won't have to revert to Sequoia after all (following inadvertent Tahoe upgrade 10 days ago) ";0))
How does the UI feel? Are the frame drops still there?

I notice no abnormal stuttering or glitches, but have always had all Apple AI & Liquid Glass effects turned off to max extent possible and run dark color scheme.

Also no memory hogging, overheating or inordinate Spotlight indexing.

As far as my use goes, it's about as stable as Sequoia at this stage.

What frame drops? I’ve never noticed any, but I also didn’t notice that one of my 4K monitors was running at 60Hz and the other at 30Hz for about a month…

What, specifically, should I look for?

If you are not a developer and no longer have Sequoia installed then you won’t be able to run comparative SwiftUI tests. If you do then ask Claude or ChatGPT to whip up a quick SwiftUI benchmark for test performance. The text should include animation, color cycling, frame rates, etc. Developers have complained Tahoe is noticeably slower than Sequoia because there is more UI compositing overhead even if you disable transparency.

Sorry, I can't help. It's been about 20 years since I last touched an IDE. One day when I get a chance I'll brush up on things, as there's a small app I'd like to make for myself, but for now I'm out.

I would have liked to help, as I find all this interesting, but between my job, the accreditation I'm studying for, and my 10 week old baby, I don't have the mental bandwidth to do anything new.

Congratulations on the new arrival.

Has anyone experienced the bug, I suppose, that is, that it is not possible to create custom folder icons with images by copying and pasting into the folder info??... in reality the hidden "icon?" file that attributes the image to the customized folder is present, but the folder is displayed as a generic folder... so I lost 40-50 customized folders... just for the moment???

I posted this back in Beta 4:

This issue has been fixed for 👍

I managed to get my backup working again. I changed the tm url to the local domain (from mDNS) and removed my server markers.

Does this differ from 26.3? In other words does 26.4 out perform 26.3? If so that would be incredibly exciting.

I didn’t notice anything in the current RC except a little UI clean up.
^^^^As posted, the issue has been cleared up for me since Beta 4, including in 25E241.

If someone says they are still seeing a bug you don’t need to tell them twice it is fixed “for you”. The nature of software bugs is that they can be random. You might not experience the same bugs because your usage habits are different or you might experience it later.

External drives not mounting issue continues that started from the 26.3.1 update, for those that also have it. Ridiculous.

None of my Feedback-logged bugs have been fixed.

Main one is SMB/Samba Time Machine backups not working.
Yup, heard of those persisting too. Mine is my main Time Machine drive. Changing permissions in system settings>privacy & security> accessories would get my drive to mount and backup periodically. Also plugging in and out repeatedly would get it going. As of today’s update, none of that works. Hope Federighi is gone sooner than later. Just saying. Product marketing sock puppet that overpromises and under delivers. Time for new heads in software for the Mac, as the user base is set to climb in a big way with the MacBook Neo.

Version 26.4 (25E246), an 18GB update from 25E241RC, has just dropped.

Looking smooth, sweet & cool.

Custom folder icons no longer show in 26.4 -- sloppy work, Apple.
I confirm at least on 16" INTEL macbook... on mac with M processors I don't know... The bug is present on both the RC and the FINAL

perform all the suggested procedures: forced reopening of the finder, clearing desktop cache, deleting plist of finder settings, reset pram etc etc

Issue seems to be Intel Macs. Updated my M4 MacBook Air today and the custom folder icons correctly show.
