Slow and steady wins the race... 😉

Sometimes patience is the key.
Since my previous attempts to patch Tahoe 26.2 always ended in a boot stop, I tried again today.

Of course, I always performed a clean install of macOS 26.2 to avoid any issues caused by OCLP remnants from the previous version.

Today I used the OCLP3.1.3 mod, whose earlier versions repeatedly forced two patches all together — Wi-Fi and audio— which caused the boot stops. I then booted 26.2 with the newly created OCLP3.1.3-Mod - as usual on a USB stick.

It completed successfully, and then I applied the patches.

What exactly happened was a bit difficult for me to follow—I don't speak/read Chinese. 😀

I was following the instructions for an OCLP 3.0.0 as template and started downloading a KDK build, which prompted me to restart after it finished.

So far, so good.

It always stopped at that point before. "This is going to take a while," I thought and went next room to get something else.

When I came back, the iMac display was showing a wonderful Tahoe blue. So much for a freeze. 👍
Looks like they've fixed it. 🙂

Tahoe26.2@iMac18.3-02.png

That's definitely an improvement, and now there's also the audio, which I previously suspected was causing the Modern Audio issue together with Modern Wireless.

Bluetooth wasn't a problem at all, but Modern Wireless still seems to be a bit glitchy.
I do have a LAN connection, but the Wi-Fi connection still needs to be sorted out.

... But now I can actually work properly on the fully equipped 18.3 iMac @ Tahoe, because previously unresolved issues like LAN and audio are working. 🙂

One thing is also clear: I don't need a 27" iMac 2019 or 2020, not even a 24" Silicon iMac.

The 18.3 iMac is perfectly adequate for my needs. 😀

Now that Apple is trying to revive Rapid Security Response, and just for testing purposes, try the 26.3 (a) which is a Background Security Improvements.
You will need to install the Developer Beta for 26.3 first.

OCLP Mod is one of the "unofficial" OCLP forks referenced by one of the OCLP Devs here, correct?

EDIT: I think it's safe to say that if we have some in this thread who blatantly disregard OCLP developer requests to wait for the official release that there will be others who continue to post OCLP and Tahoe installation status of their hackintoshes. 😉

BTT

It looks like by that screenshot you even have graphics acceleration working based on the dock, and menu bar. I was looking through your signature and I think the iMac 18x family still have supported graphics in the most current macOS versions, correct?

It's Polaris with AVX2 CPU, so yeah it's native.
I got myself an iPad Air 13" M3 for new year with Cellular. I think a hybrid tablet / basic laptop will be the better solution for me going forward for 95 percent of stuff I do these days. iPadOS 26 looks nice on that device. It would be nice if the rumor(s) I've heard about Apple putting Cellular into a macbook came true. would make it nice for on the go, and potentially being able to get it through Verizon, so the cost to pay it off would be included in my current plan's bill.

The days when I installed every macOS beta version are long gone. I'm skipping that and waiting for the official releases. 😉

I guess so.

Yes - you're right.

Thanks for the confirmation and thanks again to you & all the other OCLP devs for their efforts.

For macOS, but not for OCLP?
I understood @macpro_mid2014 's suggestion that he recommended the 26.3 beta because of background security improvements. In that case I can wait until they appear in the 26.3 release. I'm in no hurry. 😉

With OCLP, I use whatever helps, and in my experience, that doesn't always have to be the latest version.
Sometimes it depends on the interaction between the hardware & software.

@LuckyOldMan I completely understand. That is your opinion and you are perfectly entitled to express it and exercise it in this public forum, despite the OCLP developer request here to wait for the official OCLP release. In the same way, you should understand that there will be others who, despite your request not to discuss hackintoshes in this thread, will ignore you and continue to post any way. I'm not disagreeing with you - I'm just observing and commenting.

@deeveedee
Well, I figured something like this would be one of your reactions.
But you're mixing things up again.

As you say, it's my decision what I do with my Mac and what I install to test things out.

That has absolutely nothing to do with disrespect or disregard for the developers and their wish to wait for the official release.
I will certainly wait (very patiently, as you often say) and have repeatedly emphasized that it might take until mid-2026.

But I reject your underlying accusation, as well as your contrived comparison: by using fork 3.1.3, I'm not acting against the developers' wishes.
I didn't circulate fork 3.1.3, nor did I link to it.

We (still) live in a free world, and everyone can experiment as much as they want, even to the point of total chaos on their Mac. The owner is solely responsible for this, no one else.

And what that has to do with me pointing out the different topics and the fact that the thread topic should be adhered to as intended by the forum administrator is something only you know.

Here in Europe we call that comparing apples and oranges.

And no: I don't have to understand if some people including you write something different from the topic in this thread just because that's how you want to see it.

These aren't rules I invented, but those of the the mods, admins and the forum-administrator, and all forum members should follow them.
Why do you keep trying to weaken these rules, especially with the addendum above in #1.129?
It's still not a topic about Hackintoshes (which I still use myself, but discuss elsewhere in a Hackintosh forum where it belongs).

I think I've made myself clear.

Meant in a friendly way: You can put your admonishing finger down now—you're wrong with your comparison. 😉

Yup. The forum title says "Unsupported Macs" so discussion of hackintoshes should be elsewhere. Waiting patiently for everyone to recognize this.
Nonsense. It was discussed and decided before already, that hackintoshs also belong to this forum.

If you think some information is not relevant to you personally, just skip over it. Every member in this forum contributes as best as they are able to and whatever the experience is.

The experience we want to create is about collaboration, learning and fun. Excluding is not the way to go.

We have a saying in the poor communities where I'm from: 'A dog in the hunt ain't got no fleas.' It means that when you have better things on which to focus, you don't complain about the little stuff.

We won't be complaining as much about thread content when OCLP 3 is officially released. Until then, we're all waiting - some more patiently than others.

it is Very interesting how Still OCLP 2.5.0 hasn't released... ((Considering that they added it in the Changelog and implemented the Wifi Patch))

And I definitely support that.

It would be desirable to have a category for hackintoshes here in the forum. For example, there's a topic for hackintoshes on the forum macuser.de where I post about my hackintoshes. 😉

But I'm quite certain that no one in this forum discussed and decided that Hackintoshes should be discussed specifically in this thread "macOS Tahoe 26 on Unsupported Macs Discussion," because that would indeed be nonsense.

If you want to post something in a car forum about GM, but do so in a thread about Ford, every forum member would wonder if you hadn't recognized the topic.

Sure, they're both cars, but... 😉
I think you get my point.

By the way: nobody is excluded by sticking to the respective topics.
Apparently, you still don't understand what the division into different topics means.

I believe Dortania's decision, which was understandable in my view, to not include support for hackintosh is how this issue originated.

Also understandable is that hackintosh users, having no official forum for discussing OCLP, pitch-in to the Mac channels in the hope of getting some helpful information.

This only creates confusion when people don't include details of what h/w & s/w they're running, and/or when posters assume we know WTF they're talking about over a multi page conversation that is hackintosh specific.

I recommend hackintosh users make this fact abundantly clear in their posts. It would make it easier on the rest of us. Trust me, if we can help you we will.

It should be possible here in the MR forum to create a subforum for "Hackintosh" in the appropriate place, and everyone would be happy. 😉

When I was still a team member at Hacktintosh-Forum.de, I voted to create a subforum for actual Macs with some subdivisions according to the topics. It was gratefully accepted.
Here, the reverse approach would be feasible.

We might have the same goal, but the implementation is probably different.

I don't want to create a separate subforum for Hackintoshes for every macOS version, but rather a Hackintosh subforum within the hardware that is macOS-compatible.

Ultimately, these are PCs that use Clover, OpenCore, etc. to emulate a Mac. The macOS version is secondary—only the config.plist and other settings need to be adapted to the hardware.

I hope my Google Translator produces understandable English in a technical sense. 😉

Posting this not because it will upset the thread police, but because I think it's encouraging news for those who want to run Tahoe on unsupported platforms and may be concerned about Tahoe performance.

I'm testing macOS Tahoe 26.3 Beta 2 (25D5101c) on a laptop hack that has only Intel iGPU (no dGPU). After allowing the new Tahoe update to "settle," I'm very pleased with how responsive Tahoe is on this platform. I continue to use the following System Settings to improve Tahoe performance and they are working very well for me:
  • Accessibility > Display > Reduce Transparency
  • Accessibility > Motion > Reduce Motion
EDIT: Note that I am not applying any post-install patches at this time (e.g., patches for audio, Wi-Fi), since I'm waiting for the official OCLP 3 release.

EDIT2: Activity Monitor showing Memory and CPU utilization when browsing multiple pages in Safari. Tahoe will perform better on systems with at least 16GB RAM.
