I really miss numbers. I can't remember what Yosemite was as compared to Oak Tree, etc. But I do know 10.5 came out before 10.6.
They're still numbered though.

macOS Sequoia is the same as macOS 15
macOS Sonoma is the same as macOS 14
macOS Ventura is the same as macOS 13
macOS Monterey is the same as macOS 12
macOS Big Sur is the same as macOS 11

This article needs to be linked to every time someone goes off about the “Bug free” Snow Leopard.
“In fact, Snow Leopard was quite buggy, and Mac OS X 10.6.0 was certainly much buggier than Mac OS X 10.5.8, released a few weeks prior.”

In fact, I’d argue when it comes to new features and changes, modern updates like Monterey and Sequoia are significantly smaller than the jump from Leopard to Snow Leopard.
Really good point. I mean this was also the release where any remaining carbon components were rewritten and the Gx Processors were left behind. No small undertaking.

Back to the present - could we see this release leaving intel behind? With maybe a one off extended support window for sequoia ?

Why don't they just use the year of release and call it Mac OS 25, iPhone 25, iOS 25, Macbook Pro 25 and iPad 25.

Currently I'm running iOS18 on an iPhone 11 from 2020 with a mac os 14 on an macbook pro 15.1 made in 2019.

It's clumsy nomenclature.

I've been wanting them to do this for both hardware and software for years. It makes way more sense to me.

Santa Monica? Pasadena? to honor LAFD who fought really hard during wildfire early this year? and to the people who lost their houses.

People have a way too rosy view of Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Plus it left many with perfectly fine and relatively new PPC Macs stranding.

This is literally the bug that made me start backing up. I lost so much data I was furious.

Personally I hoped Apple trademarked "Belvedere" - which is next to the town of Tiburon, CA - so that they could use this image and the theme song.
