macOS Ventura 13.1 Beta 3

New Features & Changes
  • Weather app gets a redesigned sidebar
  • In icon view for Pages, Keynote, Numbers, TextEdit, there is a new document button.
New Issues
  • Safari Tab Bars have a chance of not showing content
Remaining Issues
  • Alarms may not play when display is asleep for a long period of time (FB10086690)
    • Workaround: Make your display not fall asleep in Settings > Lock Screen > Turn display off on ____ when inactive. You can turn your brightness off.
  • QuickTime Player does not record the first couple of seconds when you use a Microphone (FB10086556)
  • British keyboard icon in menu bar is wrong - shows as [A]
  • Applescripts to check calendar event alerts don't work
  • Applescripts accessing Contacts fail with a (false) permissions error
  • Calendar events created with a location have a "time to leave" alert set even if that option is disabled in preferences
  • (⚠️MAJOR ISSUE) Alias's on the desktop open terminal (FB11797211)
Resolved Issues
  • Freeform may not add objects to the board
  • Sharing Freeforms may be unresponsive
Pending Issue Status
  • Unable to play the next song, previous song, or pause using AirPods or keyboard.
    • Music will also not show in Control Center
    • Workaround: Reboot your Mac

Some people have reported during Beta 1 and Beta 2 that their external monitor stopped working. I had not experience it until installing this Beta 3. HDMI monitor.

Oh wow... This sounds like a major issue. I actually used to use Alias on my desktop.
Added the issue to remaining issues and will report that.

Edit: Found out it does this with every Alias, except only apps open a window.

seems worse here with beta 3. my folder aliases open, but a file alias brings up the terminal... with no terminal window. yikes

apple rarely responds there, but there are now 'more than 10' similar reports, so hopefully... a fix with the next update.

They said possible fix for future OS update. hopefully that means Beta 4. I marked it as a major issue.

Can anyone confirm the following destructive bug in Safari:

* Merging all windows (eg. two windows with 10 tabs each) will remove/delete any pinned tabs

No problemo!

In my case, except for two apps (will explain below), all the aliases, shortcuts, etc. in my Ventura OS 13.0.1 environment came with the migration of apps, settings, etc. from my Monterey OS 12.6.1 environment. The two that changed were 1) Onyx, as there is a specific version of it for Ventura, and 2) SuperDuper!, as I've been testing a beta version of it (from Dave Nanian of Shirt Pocket Software). Here are the aliases I have that are apps in the Dock:

Full Deck Solitaire
Klondike
Magic Number Machine
Transmission
VLC
Quicken 2017
Onyx
SuperDuper!
EasyFind
TechTool Pro
LibreOffice

Then, of course, there are all the Apple ones. They seem fine also.

I reverted to earlier beta, but yes any app alias including apple apps opened terminal or in some cases different apps altogether. Plus, it didn't have to be an alias on the desktop. Just anywhere in finder. Finder alias seemed ok. I was hoping a fix would be here this week to keep it moving along.

Forgot to mention that I have a folder on the desktop entitled "Internet Software", and inside it are 6 aliases of Brave, Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Thunderbird, and Tor. They work fine.

Seems so strange that folks are having these issues with the Beta, but not with V13.0.1.
 
hmm. any app alias i try (whether on the desktop, in a folder on the desktop, or in a folder such as Documents.. opens terminal. will wait for a fix; this started (for me) on the first 13.1 beta.

apple has 'more than 10' reports to deal with, so am sure we'll see a fix (hopefully soon)

Yeah, Apple says for a future OS update. Hopefully that means Beta 4.

Also, they marked it as more than 10 on the biggest issue I had since 13.0 Beta 1 and still no fix...

What's scary/troublesome is that this is not an issue at all with the current released version, V13.0.1. Yet present in the beta version of V13.1. Really don't want to see V13.1 released with this bug!
