I wonder if 13.2 fixes anything. The update does not show for me yet.
Any feedback on 13.2 already?

Also developer here, running Xcode all the time on M1 machine, using external 4k monitor and bluetooth Logi MX keyboard and bluetooth magic trackpad. I'm still holding on to Monterey (running smoothly), the plan was to do that until at least Ventura 13.2. Any improvements?

Just chiming here to say, Ventura is still a mess. Can’t even open Logic Pro, it just hangs and beach balls forever. Tried to create a bootable drive to Monterey , but any tips? When i get to the screen to install Monterey in the startup manager, it says that i am not able to downgrade from the current OS.

Gonna try to partition the drive and run two separate OS’s for now. But it looks like it is not possible to return m1 macs to their original OS like old macs, which is totally stupid.

This is why I never update to newest macOS on machines that are for work, I usually upgrade non-essential Macs to the latest software.

Example, still running 12.6.3 (Monterey) on 2019 Mac Pro and Ventura on M1 MBAir.

I suggest you wait for the 13.3 beta 1 and install that to see if that takes care of some issues. It should be coming out next week or so. But downgrading is a pain, unless you have a Time Machine backup and want to reinstall Monterey and use Time Machine to restore the user data.

Word to the wise, just wait for .3 or .4 OS versions next time to update. .2 and .1 are too early.

Yeah, just learned this the hard way. Apple doesn’t let you revert to the “factory “ OS like they used too. So i partitioned the drive with Monterey, deleted the one with Ventura, and then erased the Mac, just so it could boot with Monterey. 10 years of owning a Mac and never had to do this.
Also couldn’t boot from a Monterey installer. Like, if Ventura is on your computer, they make sure that is the only one you can reinstall. Anyway back on Monterey and installing Logic Pro now to see if it all works.

Looks like i have to buy a computer every time i want to “update” the OS haha

You can do a complete reset, just have to wipe the OS drive from a boot disk and nuke it via terminal.

You can then run an installer off the usb stick (Ventura or whatever) and do a fresh install.

Lately Apple has been updating Time Machine software behind the scenes so every OS update, example if your TM backup is in Ventura, and then you install Monterey and want to "restore" from the TM backup, it won't let you.

I used to restore from TM backups after downgrading with no issues.

Good to know. Any links for how to do this?

It is kind of sad that this thread ends with a tutorial on how to get back to Monterey.

I thought that most of the problems went away with 13.2. Didn't they?

Very glad to find this thread, as I've run into some of the same problems. Fortunately, holding down the restart button (and simply selecting the HD) seems to have done the trick.

But why? What does that do? Isn't every shutdown/restart supposed to clear out caches, memory, etc? Any chance this is an NVRAM problem?

What do you mean? How do I do this special restart on an M1 MBP?
