I have been noticing more MacPros kept on top of desk rather than on the floor. Why is this. I think it's too big to go on a desk, even a big one. Is there something I don't know about. I guess the 'dust bunnies' may be a bit larger on the floor but it's also cooler. Getting to the back is just as much as a pain in both places.

Get some strong steel hooks and chains from Home Depot, and hang it from the ceiling. Why bother the floor and desk. Make it as a Mac Pro Air.

But, hot air rises. So, it will be far too warm just hanging from the ceiling.

What you need to do is hang it from a ceiling fan. That will improve the air flow through the tower and likely keep it from retaining too much dust.

If it does get dusty, just turn the fan up higher.

Oh, you may want to leave the room in-case the tower lets go and slams into your head.

Now, that's a Mac fan

at home its on my desk. I'm getting one for work which will be on the floor, there just isn't space for it.

I keep mine up top beause I just happen to have lots of space. My desk isn't really a desk, it's a 36" deep x 72" wide x 29" high folding table that I got for $20 from craigslist. And my Mac Pro is in my basement so the table doesn't look so out of place down there (as opposed to the living room or something). And even with the tower sitting up there, I still have half that table going unused (for now).

I keep my Mac Pro on the desk, but having said that, when i get my new desk, i'm making a stand that will double as my cable tidy to house the surge protector and cables, will be about 14 inches high and 14 inches wide with a rubber mat cut to fit on top to zero out any vibration from the mac pro, then if i need to get to the optical drive it will be to my left at hand hight, no bending down involved, it would go under the desk but i kinda fidget a lot so i want the room to move about :)

That is the same kind of thing I need. I might just make one too as I haven't found anything decent on-line or elsewhere.

Ive been looking around, and it looks like a custom home made stand is the only way to go, that way the hight can be customised just for me, only other thing to work out is easy access underneath for the cable management, but these things are send to test our mettle................;)

Every tower I've ever had is on the floor, I put it in the prefect place.... to put my feet on while I'm on the computer. :D

I keep mine on my desk, as I like the easy access, and the floor is carpeted.
We also have 2 dogs & I would throttle them if they even thought of...........
Anyway desk top it is.:D

It can't fall off the floor.

It can fall over on the floor though.

For me, hot air rises, so floor it is. If on soft carpet, I put wood underneath. My PMG5 sits in the desk cradle though (still on the floor really).
