I edited the 18,3 Post with a big scary warning. but im still leaving the DXE there in case anyone does want to poke around with it/disassemble it
Anyone who knows how to disassembly a DXE will extract the ffs from the .fd file with 3 clicks.😉

Damm 2 bricks today, its turning into a black Wednesday for Mac Pro's, sorry for both I am.🙁
With 2009-2012, it's just a long and tedious procedure, but with a 2008 it's a highly technical job to reprogram the FWB. TSOP memories are hard to desolder, extremely hard to reprogram, hard to solder again. 🙁

Anyway, I now have a reason to buy a 12-core 4,1 or 5,1 and will replace the 3,1 logic board at a later date. What's the best place to buy used 4,1s/5,1s?
Since shipping is a big cost factor, first try to find one locally. Craigslist?
If you want a dual processor, go for a 2010/2012. If you want a single, go for a 2009. Upgrade RAM/CPU yourself, unless you find it cheap.

Very sorry to hear that! When I first read the post, I too assumed wrongly that it was booting. That’s why I asked about the “weekend” comment. I knew there was a problem because of that, but not knowing which cMP Alex is posting from at any given time, I didn’t catch the gist of the post at first glance either.
At some point, I’ll prolly be in the same boat as you. When all my NVMe gear is paid for, I plan on getting a replacement logic board too. One of my ethernet ports took damage in a lightning storm, so it’s in the bucket list already.
Good luck with the cMP search. I feel your pain... 🙁

Much is learned from (expensive ) mistakes . .. like falling of one's first bicycle 50 times and then . . riding fast!
When Mojave goes GM .. maybe we'll have a lot clearer idea of how to & what to do . . at least until 10.15.x arrives.
I've elected to wait for Mojave GM.
For me, NVME M.2 booting Hi Sierra 10.13.6 plus having PCIe USB 3.0 + flashed HD 7970 @ 5.0 GT/s is miles ahead of what I had three years ago and I have finally been able to banish all of my hot, spinner HDD's from the cMP internals.
I think that sometime in the near future we will be able to refer to our tsialex-dosdude2-Gilles regenerated cMPS as . . cMP 5.2's 🙄
Anyway, I applaud everyone who has contributed to the conversation, development and testing.

Definitely going for a dual proc. Looking at clean Mid-2012s first then Mid-2010s as I do not want to start another side/hack project. The 3,1 I have was converted from a 2,1 and I ended up paying more for parts and upgrades than buying a straight out 3,1. I am looking to buy from the US as there are many options when compared to other countries and will have it shipped internationally to the Middle East. Question is who to avoid as I read many horror stories with second-hands on here and other forums.

Sorry to read about your disaster this morning.
Just one note: The 2010 and 2012 chassis and logic boards are 100% identical, so no need to pay more for a 2012 (unless you wanted the faster processors as stock). You may be thinking about the 2009, which does have some differences but can be converted to the 2010/2012 model with a firmware flash.
Edit: Ebay can be a crapshoot sometimes, but usually you will fare well if you choose a seller who describes in detail the condition (physical and functional) and provides a lot of pictures showing the case. You should definitely contact the seller before you buy/bid in order to ensure that they will ship to the Middle East (not all sellers are comfortable with shipping internationally) and you can also enquire about what kind of shipping materials they will use (very few cMP owners keep the original box it seems). You may want to ask about paying more to have the cMP professionally packed for the long journey.
I bought my 2009 second hand on ebay 2 years ago and it arrived in great condition with just a couple of very minor scratches. I specifically looked for one that was described as "very good" or "excellent" condition. Of course, I'm in the US so it had probably an easier journey, but the seller packed it well with that expanding foam-type stuff.
The most common damage to find on the cMPs (especially ones that have previously been shipped) is bent "feet". So pay particular attention to that aspect in the photos and maybe ask the seller to place some solid styrofoam or other rigid cushioning underneath all four feet/handles (unless you don't care about the appearance).

An interesting thing with NVMe boot, I have in my machine NVMe boot and also AHCI both via PCIe cards. when I just zapped the PRAM and NVRAM it switched from booting the NVMe drive to booting the AHCI drive. I think it maybe that the AHCI drive will be seen as priority after NVRAM zap.
On a separate note I just installed a LT-120 PCIe card with NVMe Samsung 951 drive to my single CPU Mac Pro and can report that it works very well, I have also added heat sinks to the NVMe drive. I will do a speed test shortly. thanks again to TisAlex for the boot rom😎 below is the test, slower write speeds than the 951 AHCI drive by 200, but faster read speed by a little bit about 50 still a lot faster than SSD or SATA 2 or 3

Mac Pro firmware treats AHCI as primary and NVMe as secondary. Before to start to modifying my MAC PRO Firmware, I had purchased a MAC PRO 2010 recovery firmware in ebay USA, a programmer, in Brazil, and I will buy also a small zif socket to easy replace the MAC PRO firmware chip. This socket is only available in ebay Australia, so I will wait a little bit more to have a friend traveling from there to Brazil to hand carry this item to me. The idea is to remove the original chip and install the small socket to have firmware changed easily in case of emergency. I have also two brand new firmware chips SST 25VF032B on hands.
If someone need a original BIOS recovery data from MAC PRO mid 2010, let me know and I will read the chip received from eBay in my programmer and will send the .BIN data via PM.
Still need some advisory how to have my 4 x NVME drivers working at maximum speed in my High Point SSD7101A-1.

Your eBay chip has the LOCKED.fd, no?
Do a BootROM dump, install 138.0.0.0.0 to get 5GT/s then you will enable the maximum througput.
