FINALLY!~ Thank you! Lord!

I have been waiting for a redesign and MR mobile site forever. Now, the forum skin should be the same as the site. Altho upgrading it to vBulletin 4.0 would be great since it's quite similar in color.

Browsing on my iPad for the first time since the redesign today and it is clear that the new design was done with this format in mind. Looks good here; too bad the site has to look unfinished on a computer to better accommodate tablets.

FWIW, Safari 5.0.5 on OSX 10.6.6 doesn't update and notify in Top Sites whenever new content is added.

I'm also seeing this problem. I wonder if Apple documents how the Top Sites feature detects if the web site has been updated? I searched the developer documentation with no success.

From a 1024x768 resolution Windows XP, the forum has a horizontal scroll bar now :(, it'd be great if a bit of the space in the left side was gone, so that there doesn't need to be a horizontal scroll bar. I also don't think the new color scheme for title goes along with the current vBulletin colors.
EDIT: switching to "Fluid" theme solved the problem.

Looks good.

Just don't upgrade to vB 4.x...now that would suck.

Why is vB4 so bad? Come on guys, It gets to a point where running vB3 isn't secure any more, as vB will stop releasing security patches for it, and plus, vB4 is just a newer version of vB3! I know plenty of sites that use it and there isn't any bad changes. It's sort of like the iMac with no floppy drive. The rest is good, but when you get (or don't get) one feature that you don't like, you get all upset. MR is a growing site and can't stay old with vB3 because some people don't like it.

Why is vB4 so bad?

Beats me. I don't know jack about the subject, but a quick Google search showed a consumer poll of the two and VB4 was preferred 9 to 1 over VB3. Another result turned up template developers generally preferred the ease of setup in VB4 over VB3 as well. The only complaint I could find about VB4 on one site was they didn't like the new theme that was being used with it, which has nothing to do with the underpinnings. I'd be curious to hear why ^^BIGMac doesn't want it.

Excellent timing. I was about to give up this site for Appleinsider to see if their mods well slightly less annoying, but now this site is so much prettier... AI has always been an eyesore tbh, but i was willing to just deal with it if their mods were less annoying. Oh well. Guess I'll just have to manage.

Weird looking navigation

I doubt it is just my opinion that the navigation bar can be coded better. The main problem is that the white border on the right of each menu item is overlapping its rounded corners. Here’s a simple fix:

Add:
Code:
#nav {background-color: white;}

#nav li {margin-right: 1px;}

Remove:
Code:
#nav li {[s]border-right: 1px solid white;[/s]}

Change (optional):
Code:
#nav li a {height: 34px; line-height: 34px;}

* The navigation bar ID is #nmrnav instead of #nav in the forums css.

Anyone else having issues trying to get to www.macrumors.com using Chrome???

Getting the following error:

Requested Range Not Satisfiable

None of the range-specifier values in the Range request-header field overlap the current extent of the selected resource.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Is this still happening?

arn

I cleared my cache this morning, and it seems to have solved my issue. Thanks!

having used it for a week now in various formats, including fluid HD, im of the opinion that this isnt the most easy on the eye design.

Why does the tabs fonts and even some other fonts have to be so big?? It looks unprofessional IMO.

I end up pressing Apple - to bring it down a tad, then going onto other sites and having to put it back up...and yes my safari is set at Times 16 standard.

Few adjustments needed on this design i feel....

RSS Feed Debacle...

Wow. MacRumors.com is virtually useless now without the RSS feeds working properly. Why do so many sites "update" their layouts and web designs without actually testing all of the features first these days? I setup three separate feeds to test which one would work best for me, none of them updated after the site redesign until sometime overnight last night, and now they aren't updating again. What gives?
