absolutely not. and dont feel a bit bad about it either. all the help is appreciated

This is totally new to me and I'm very excited. But before beginning with folding I want to know if my processing power is really used for folding and not for other things like virtual nuclear experiments.

This question rises to me when reading about strange projects like seti@home.

That's an interesting question. I think it ultimately comes down to how much you trust the institutions behind the projects. Stanford runs Folding and Berkeley runs SETI.

I've been folding for about 3 weeks, and I'm stuck on the same protein. It's a monster.

Must be the cure for cancer. :D

After reading more about this project, I decided to join. Figured I'd put my dual 1ghz to good use.

Thanks for signing on, Java!

And thanks to arn for the front page! It's already helping the team!

Just Joined

I just joined the MacRumors Folding Team (BigJayhawk). I added a brand New Dell 2.4 Ghz Machine at work and I'll add my Mac Cube 450 when I get home.

It will be interesting to see which is faster at folding. The BRAND NEW Dell or the Mac Cube that is years old!?

i got........ <reaching into pockets>............ 10 cents....

Let's keep the momentum going!!!

10 cents is a start! In fact, at this rate, there will be G8 chips in this thing by the time we can afford it. That WILL REALLY make our donations toward saving the world worth while. We may even get to speak on iChat AV at one of Steve's Keynotes! (After all, Al was on one and what exactly did he do -- invent the internet, or something?? heh)

Wintel 5th columnists

Just out of interest, how many of us are folding on purely Wintel machines? I'm just nosey about how many others don't own a Mac yet, but are watching the rumor/news sites/forums etc.

No reason, just nosey.

It's nothing to do with me thinking I'm weird or anything.

Ha.

Ha ha ha.

The very idea.

(Mine's a 1.33 Gig Athlon, by the way...until Christmas when I hope to be switching to a rev. B G5. Of course, this urge to spend is entirely unrelated to my pathological need to to catch up with Sedulous, Threadhead, and Britboy.)

NEWBIE

Been reading MacRumors a long time and finally felt compelled to register, basically because I've just begun to fold@home for the MR team. Had considered it before but shyed away. I took the time to fully read about the folding project and understand what it's all about. Once that happened I joined immediately. Woo! Thanks for maintaining this superb, levelheaded rumor site. Easily one of the top 5 Mac sites around. Keep up the good work.

I've had my AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton) PC running at 1.83GHz and my QS 867MHz G4 crunching away for folding for about 3 weeks now and I am glad to contribute my 500+ pts to one of the best Mac sites around!

Brother Mugga, some people are windows only, some people with windows labs do contribute, we don't care what OS you run.

Its all for the greater cause!

And welcome to all who joined! :D

Just started visiting macrumors a while ago and have loved everey minute of it. Hope I can help bring the team to #1, where any mac team should be.

Then we wouldn't even have to worry about protein folding, we'd all be dead.

Do i hear a challenge? Do I? All i have to say is: beware! :D

FYI> i've just added a 2.4 GHz P4, and an 800 MHz duron to my list, so good luck trying to catch up ;)
