Hi all,

I'm getting these 100% cpu spikes whe opening the notification dropdown menu and
when editing a previously saved post.

It's happening on ArcticFox PPC and Iceweasel PPC and TenFourFox on a powerbook G4 1.67ghz.

Anyone else getting these?

Best regards,
voidRunner

Aren't 100% CPU spikes normal on these browsers when doing anything inititially - certainly was always the case on TFF - I just accept that as the norm now?

Hi Drone,

The problem is that it stays at 100% after that unless I do a reload of the page.
That's what I don't understand.

Hi Drone,

Another thing is that it always happens after the progress bar shows
at the top of the page.

I'm seeing it too - sticks at around 85% in AF and 45% on TFF - reloading brings it back down.

Yep that's it.

But I don't remember seeing this before :(

I've tried to block the script that put the progress bar but it breaks everything else.

Best regards,

Same happens on ppc Linux on any Mozilla based browser since the forum upgrade. What works best for me is log in, then use scriptblock add-on to shut off JS. Works great, and if you want to check alerts etc, just a simple click re-enables JS.

Cheers

Classic case of 'enhancement' purely for the sake of it...who would have thought 10 years ago a text based platform could be so demanding?

I miss the old threaded forums on other sites. Unfortunately, they had severe security holes, so they definitely won’t be returning...

Hi guys,

I've been developing this using greasemonkey a bit like viewtube but
for a "not so rich" Rich Text Editor.

I hadn't mentioned it before because it's not ready but right now
creating a new post and posting replies it is working fine with a low CPU usage.

Best regards,
voidRunner

It's amazing when you realize that any forum could run flawlessly on a low-end G3, because they are just mediums of text message exchanges, which is all an interactive forum is comprised of.

But nooo, we've gotta have the JavaScript, animations, and web services so that your machine must be this tall to pass...

I really wish there was some tool that could let you browse the Web in its entirety in versions 1.0 and 2.0, so that 3.0 wouldn't cripple any device more than 10 years old. Watch computer lifespans shoot from 5 years to 20...

The site works without javascript I think, if that helps. Beyond that, you can turn off the rich editor specifically.

Not sure what mike be spiking your browser, but it's mostly stock Xenforo, unfortunately.

5 years ago, I can remember browsing and reading this forum from 9600/200MP with Classilla in 9.2.2. I can't claim any special tricks or anything of the sort-the computer is bone stock other than having an unreasonably large amount of RAM(1.5gb), a Radeon 9200, and of course it needed OS 9 Helper to get to 9.2.2.

My ability to do that died when this site transitioned from vBulletin to Xenforo. That computer can still handle vBulletin and other old forum software, but Xenforo is a different ball game. Even some older Intel hardware is starting to struggle with the newest Xenforo update.
