For this week's giveaway, we've teamed up with ColorWare to offer MacRumors readers a chance to win a custom Apple Pencil 2 that's been painted to look like an actual number 2 pencil.

ColorWare is a company that makes custom-painted Apple products and accessories, and ordering from ColorWare is essentially the only way to get a non-standard color for AirPods, the Apple Pencil, the Magic Mouse, and AirTags.

Occasionally, ColorWare comes out with super fun special edition products, such as the new ColorWare Apple Number 2 Pencil. This is an Apple Pencil 2 that has a black tip, yellow body, painted-on eraser, and other detailing for a faithful rendering of a number 2 pencil.

ColorWare is making a limited number of the Apple Number 2 Pencils, and they're priced at $215. That's an $86 premium over the $129 price tag, but the extra cost is worth it for a unique design that will make your iPad stand out. To get the pencil-like effect, ColorWare has combined matte, metallic, and glossy paints for the pencil, and it comes in a special edition box.

I have always had my doubts about the durability of their coatings, especially since AirPod cases and Pencils can take a lot of abuse - but that is awesome. Would pair well with Scott Forstall's old skeuomorphic stuff.

funny how Apple (and everyone else basically) went through lengths to do away with skeuomorphism and yet every now and then something like this pops up and everyone's like "oh the nostalgia, gimme gimme"

I like to be able to choose… i actually really disliked the look of ios when it got to version 6… i felt the skkeuomorphism was just too much…

When i look back… i just think it looks terrible, even worse than i knew

I dont mind a little bit of it, and to be able to choose when its present etc.. so to be able to turn it on, off… or have a balance is nice.

On products like this pencil, its ok… its good to have the options but i really do prefer the very clean look apple goes for… i only wish it was available in matt black

I'd imagine there isn't a matte black option as it wouldn't stand out enough if you dropped it in a somewhat darker environment.

too bad it cannot be used to write notes comfortably, because using it will consume more power than triple A gaming, puncturing holes in your battery charge.
2h of total use in best scenario. 10% battery every 15minutes. write notes yes but only for a short time. for watching videos or browsing, no problem you have time, battery charge will hold for many hours. but writing notes with pencil and your ipad battery will be drained so fast you'll be shocked. as far as i'm concerned until this bug is fixed, using pencil is the shortest way to kill your battery. maybe apple should be busy fixing the truckload of bugs accumulated over the years instead of getting concerned by apparences. having a nice looking pencil is one thing, but what good is it if each time you put it to use you destroy ipad autonomy ?
i mean think about it, that thing will gulps 10% of ipad battery every 15 minutes.

Ummm, you may need to get your stuff checked, those kinds of numbers are very unrealistically low.

I mean, my wife has a 4th gen 11" iPad Air and AP2 and she can draw for hours for several days before needing to charge the iPad. Same goes for my 4th gen 13" Pro.

I’ve never once felt compelled to take advantage of Apple’s free engraving when placing an online order. The lone exception being my Pencil 2. I couldn’t resist.

That said, ColorWare’s spin is super fun.

FWIW I bought a keyboard and trackpad from them 5 years ago and I haven’t seen any signs of wear.

Ummm, you may need to get your stuff checked, those kinds of numbers are very unrealistically low.

I mean, my wife has a 4th gen 11" iPad Air and AP2 and she can draw for hours for several days before needing to charge the iPad. Same goes for my 4th gen 13" Pro.

Different commenter. My iPad Air (M1) battery drops quickly when using the Apple Pencil 2 in Notes. What the other commenter said is largely accurate about battery life in my experience. I can maybe get a couple hours of use before needing to charge the iPad. In some drawing apps I've tested though, the battery lasts much longer.
