Call me crazy, but I get the weirdest feeling that folks here aren't too enthusiastic about this product…

Honest question - what's up with you people who can't remember to take a drink of water? You really need a smart bottle to help you track it?
[doublepost=1497644974][/doublepost]
Replace with beer. Follow recommendations. Then they need a "share your results" feature so you can challenge your friend.

You joke, but I'm suddenly seeing a more worthwhile use of the bottle and app...

No, it’s to ensure that you’re drinking as much water as you should each day.

Because drinking more water helps you eat smaller portions and is generally just good for you, and water intake can be pivotal when attempting to lose weight.

And we can't possibly figure that out for ourselves without a $45 water bottle synced to our iPhones.

Bought one of these with the original Kickstarter.
Replaced the batteries when one of the lights went out and it stopped completely.
Beyond junk.

I have this innate ability called "thirst", it lets me know when I need water. I don't need a fancy gadget, an iPhone for it to work. I just get this urge to go drink water. I could be talking to a friend, busy at work, or going for a run then BAM this feeling pops into my head "I should probably drink". Perhaps I am the only one who has this ability. Its a question I find I am asking more often than not these days.

This looks really great! Wish I could participate:(

I can and I'm not for the first time. It might be a good product for some but I have no interest in something that tells me when to drink.

I'm surprised. Checking the entries, there are about 3000 entries so far with six days left.

Still waiting for my iPhone connected toilet with the bowel movement app that keeps track of the size and frequency of my bowel movements and alerts me when it's time to take another dump.
Turd size connected to the Game Center with proper Achievements and I'm in.
Or an extra coffee colored circle on the apple watch

I must be stupid.
For all there years, I've been looking at the level of water in my bottle to tell me how much I have drunk and how much is left to drink
I feel so dumb knowing I've been doing it wrong all this time :(

And especially useful for people who can't count or remember things.

I love the water app on apple watch--I have a kidney problem and must drink lots of water

And you can't remember to drink on you own?
[doublepost=1497700350][/doublepost]
Or you could use your iPhone's reminders to remind you every 4 hours to drink half a liter.

A fool and their money...

Everyone here is surprisingly short sighted. Just because you can’t see the reason in a product doesn’t mean there aren’t people who could benefit from it and need to be belittled by you.
Realizing you’re thirsty/your body needs water is greatly reduced with age. Additionally, older people have a higher risk of dementia or other diseases that cause forgetting things easily. You don’t want to know how many emergencies there are because older folks are extremely dehydrated. So much money in healthcare could be saved with a product like this for older people who live at home

Am I thirsty? Hrmm, not sure. Better check my iPhone and $45 water bottle.

This is getting beyond stupid.

This is dangerous!
You may die of thirst because your phone's battery are dead :)

Yeah because that's how phones work these days... Has someone ever called you? You might have noticed due to the fancy things your smartphone is doing (hint: it involves the stimulation of three! senses at the same time). - imagine that technology has come so far: phones can even make sounds these days!

From experience dealing with some older people suffering from this, you can add using an iPhone to the list. A solution for people suffering from dementia or Alzheimers that requires an iPhone is really not a solution. An older person might also have issues with the larger container size.

Surprisingly, the number of entries is approaching 4000 with 6 days left. Call me cynical but I can see this up on Ebay after it's awarded since I can't believe that level of actual interest as shown by the number of entries.

Hydration is important, if I do not drink enough water at home now, I simply drink the rest when I get home. I do not need a smart water bottle (that would probably complain if I put my green juice in it) :p

and I understand how an alert or alarm could be beneficial to those who do not drink enough, but not a water bottle.

Ha HA.... I did not know that!

And then there's this thing how much someone should drink.
If you consume/eat lots of fluids (Example: Water/Tea/soup) it's very likely you don't need to drink the amount of water this bottle/App tells you to drink.
It also doesn't consider workouts/work related transpiration/surrounding temperature/humidity amongst others.

FYI, Drinking too much water can kill you. It's a myth that you have to drink 8 glasses of water a day. There is no science to back this up.
Check out "Adam Ruins Everything - Why You Don't Need 8 Glasses of Water a Day"

There was even a case 10 years ago about a runner "Milton Keynes" dying from hyponatraemia, or water intoxication.
Not to say some people might have medical reason for drinking a certain amount of water a day.

You also get water from eating too.

I suffer from depression; one of the things this does is makes me very susceptible to memory lapses or getting focused on something to the detriment of other things.

One of the things which often falls by the wayside is drinking enough. Dehydration is one hell of a trip, especially if you work on a computer for long periods of time.

In addition, people often confuse thirst for hunger, which can lead to a poor diet. Training yourself out of that is difficult, and having something help you can be incredibly easy.

That said I presume that all of you also don’t use the fuel gauge on your car - after all you can simply remember to refuel, and you know how much you put in, so it’s nice and easy right?

Sorry to hear that. Have you considered setting up a series of repeating reminders on your iDevice to remind you to stop what you're doing and have a drink?

Thank you for your “concern”. It works alright, but if you don’t respond immediately, you often can’t remember if you’ve actually drunk or not, having something which logs it automatically is useful.

I don’t see why people object to people using technology to unintrusively make their lives easier?

I’ll stick with drinking a healthy amount of water each day, consciously considering my intake, which helped me to lose about 30 lbs in a few months alongside walking. I didn’t stick to 8 glasses a day religiously, but I did religiously drink a glass to the bottom before meals.

Eight glasses of water isn’t even remotely near “too much” so as to induce hyponatraemia. The guy (not named Milton Keynes; that’s a place, not a person) was a runner on a marathon, which is hard enough on the body in itself. He likely tried to overcompensate with water, and there you have it.

Personally? I’ve found that around eight glasses a day is enough to keep me well-hydrated and the benefits that come along with it. Less soda, too, which comes with its own set of benefits.
