I am not that great, but this kid at my school nearly broke our mile record, and broke the 800 record. He did a 4:36 1600 and a 1:56 800. Between him and this other kid on the team, our 4x8 is amazing!

cool, those are very good times. It's exciting to be on good relay teams. :)

Nobody is breaking any records at my high school any time soon... 1:52 for the 800, 3:43 for the 1500m, 4:07 for the mile, 8:58 for the 2 mile... yeah.

those are pretty good times. the 1600 time isn't that great (that was my best), but the 800 time is pretty good. that's the record at my high school (i forgot the 1600 record....i think it's around 4:20)

yeah, those records will be hard to break

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, got the flu.
I'm out of action for a few days, maybe a week.
This is really annoying.
So close to the prize.
Maybe my body is telling me something.
Never ran so far. Never been so sore.
Maybe June I'll go for it again.

sorry to hear that......less than a week left!

maybe you'll feel better tomorrow.....

At best it could be 3 days.
Coughing all the time, hard breathing, lethargic, aching everywhere.............no running for me!

crappy dude.. try running it out, sucked hard, but worked for me earlier in the year

the general rule is that if the sickness is in your chest, you don't run. Period. If it's throat and above, you can gut it out if you can tolerate it.

Sorry to hear it, 748s. Good competition at the end of the month is fun. You said maybe in june... why not May?

Tried running through it, Just got too much.
Walking around, at the moment, is hard work! Lots of coughing.:(
See how I feel tomorrow. I'll try for a KM or two.
If I can't keep to a run or jog I'll stop.

I want to concentrate on speed work and weights in May.
My time per KM is dropping but I want to be faster.
Started running again last Novemeber (after a very long break).

Good Luck and keep on rollin';)

you don't really gain anything by forcing yourself to jog a mile or two at much-slower-than-normal pace when your body is so weak. Just wait until you're better. :)

It is tomorrow here, just got up. Feeling better but haven't got the energy for a run. I'm going to relax until my body is ready. Thanks.

I set up the May challenges - congrats to the winners of the April challenges - the distance one may be close this month with QCassidy and Twood - will be interesting to see if anyone else can grab the trophy...;)

Nah - maybe a 10K today...that is it. Missed yesterday so that will be it. I am actually going to be way down for May as well, but it has served its purpose as I dropped about 25 pounds since 12/21.

You did real well this month. Keep it up.

good job ziwi! 25 pounds is quite a bit. thanks again for setting up all of these challenges :)

wow, 25 lbs since december... congrats! It must feel awesome to get in to such better shape. I never really gain or lose weight, but I certainly exchange fat for muscle when I'm in shape, and it just feels so much better to be fit.

You did real well this month. Keep it up.

thanks. :) I've got a bunch more miles to upload when I get home tonight (studying for finals at school all day), so it'll be a pretty decent month overall.

Let me also echo twood in saying thanks for setting up all these challenges! I'm not sure if I'm going to do the mile/5k/10k next month just because the way my nike+ works (or doesn't work, as the case may be), it's pretty much impossible for me to register anything much below 6 min/mile pace no matter how fast I actually run. But I'll certainly be back in the distance challenge. :)

Let's just say it needed to go. I think I need to lose another 20 - been stuck at 200 for a few weeks now and it seems to have leveled off - old running weight was 155-165, but I was Kate Moss looking back then - if I could get to 185-190 i would be happy. Still at 6'2" 200 isn't too bad, but you can feel it - I wish the speed could come back a little better, but I havethat disease called age...:)

not to call you out or anything, but i don't really agree with how you upload your runs. when i uploaded a bunch of walking miles at the end of one month to beat you, you didn't like it too much. and i agreed that it wasn't the fairest way to go about these challenges. but you do the exact same thing all the time. clearly if you're online (like right now) all you have to do is plug in your ipod, to any computer, and bam, it's uploaded. the only time i don't upload is when i'm at my parents house with no internet (and you don't see me on here either). sorry, but it's really not fair to not upload your miles when you can

just keep running and you'll lose some more weight also.....it just might take awhile though. and you might get some speed back as well......your age may cause you to have to work a little harder....but you can still get faster ;)

Well, I'm sorry you feel that way, but I don't see the two situations as the same at all. My objection to your walking miles wasn't that you uploaded them all at once, but that you were counting milage that really was just part of daily life and not training. The fact that you uploaded them all at once wasn't itself the problem, but rather just called attention to the fact that you were adding non-training milage.

There are two reasons that upload my runs in the way that I do, and neither has nothing to do with being unfair about the challenges.

First, as I think I explained once before, my ipod nano is about 18 months old and getting sicker all the time (it won't update to 1.3.1, it sometimes won't turn off, it sometimes shuts off during runs, and so on). I don't want my nano to die, and it seems to me that minimizing the number of times I sync it can't hurt and might well help.

Second, and more importantly, I spend most of my time at school, and I don't take my nano (much less the charging cable) with me. So I only plug it in when I'm at home and have enough time to let the nano fully charge.

Basically, I use my ipods until their charge runs down, and then let them fully recharge. That means plugging it in every few days. That's the way I've always used my ipods, since long before I ever got a nike+.

And finally, I'm not quite sure what your objection is, regardless of my reasons. Not only am I not the only person who doesn't update every day, but it's really no secret how much I run - my total is basically the same at the end of every month, and pretty consistent even week to week. What exactly is unfair here?

well, it's not that what you're doing is totally illegal or anything, but the way i see it, it would not be fair if i decided to not upload my miles, and then come in and bam, here you go, give me first place.

i know you don't do that, but it's really the same principle. i see you online (on the forums), and i just feel that there's no reason not to upload your miles as well.

as far as the reasons that you give, i've had my nano since the day they came out with the nano, and i've had similar problems as you have had (and some worse problems). to me, i have to upload the miles before my nano messes up and loses the miles.

as far as what i did that other month, i have to disagree. it was the way i did it that made me feel like i wasn't fair to you. like others said, miles is miles, no matter how you get them (as long as you actually do them). but since i kept them in my back pocket, it wasn't really fair to you.

the people that dont upload regularly aren't on these forums regularly either

I realize that you don't agree with my thinking, but as I said, those are my honest reasons for the way I do it. It's consistent with how I've always used my ipods since my 1G in 2001, not some attempt to be sneaky.

I upload every 3-4 days (which is how many runs it takes my ipod to run down). Every time I upload I jump in to the lead, and then gradually lose that lead over the next few days. My milage is consistent and predictable, and I just don't see it as "coming out of nowhere."

If that's what you feel was unfair, then fine. But do realize that was not my objection then, and it is not my objection now. IMO counting walking "milage" that is just part of daily life is invalid because it has no relation to training (especially for a competitive college racer like you).

I (and I would suspect most people participating in these challenges) think of these challenges as an attempt to measure how much we are training, not our total time in motion for the month. If enough people disagree with me on that, we can change our collective understanding and all start wearing our nike+ sensors all day, but I think that's silly because it's not meaningful data as far as training goes.
