I'm just shy of 1,300 total miles. I've been using the kit since the beginning of the year. I started the year doing 3 miles a day, and worked up to 12 miles a day back in May.

I used to jog, but sustained a knee injury that kept me off the trails for several months. When I returned, I decided to stick with power-walking. I get the same health benefits with less strain on my knees.

Of course, if I was in my 20s rather than my 40s, I'd probably return to jogging!

that's a lot of miles. especially all this year. it's still hard to believe anyone would take 3 hours of their time every day to walk. but, that's better than doing nothing at all.

i can do a lot of miles, but i don't think i could walk that much. i've got just under 1700 miles on my nike+ id.

sorry to hear about your knee injury. i've had several running injuries, some pretty serious, but luckily i'm still running. i've got one more track season in college left.

1,700 miles is outstanding. How long have you had the Nike+ kit?

As for walking 3 hours a day, I'm doing it during a time when many people are either still asleep or are getting ready/in the midst of their long morning commutes. My home on the upper floor of my office building (Japan can be convenient that way), so my commute is about 10 seconds!

thanks. i actually got the kit when it first came out, but after a little over a month i lost the kit (didn't have it good in my non-nike+ shoe). i didn't get another kit until november i believe, but totally sure about the date.

true, and your commute gives you more time, but that's still a lot of walking. do you walk any on concrete or asphalt?

man i hate this sensor! please tell me that they are working to make this thing better.

i'm so mad right now. i decided to do a fast mile on the track for a little workout. i was going to calibrate it first, so it would be at a faster pace. i tried to calibrate, but after 400 meters around the track, it said that i didn't go far enough, and it wouldn't calibrate!

so i decided to just do it anyways. man, what a piece of crap. after i finished 3 laps, i heard "half-way point, .5 miles completed"! what?! i ran a 4:56 mile, and it said on my ipod only 0.70 miles completed!

so i just ended the workout. what a piece of garbage. i ran another lap before ending the workout, and it was saying i was only going like 6:55 pace or something, when i was running 36 seconds for every 200 meters!

I hear yah.

Running a 10k, and it says a little over 7.5k. It's certainly frustrating, especially when you lose a challenge by a couple km, considering I'm losing a couple kms every run.

However, as long as it's not over estimating and I'm not getting cheated, I can't get too upset.

yeah i guess. but mine can't even calibrate right.

makes me wonder what the leaders are doing. clearly they aren't really running a 12:59 5k, and they're not averaging 5'40" per mile for 3,000 miles either. not unless they run for nike, and even then, the american record for 5k is 12:58 by Bob Kennedy. and i think only one other american has ran under 13:00 before (must have been 12:59)

Yeah, those are ridiculous times. I've run in a couple races this summer, and the faster 5k I've seen is low 16's, and a 30 for a 10k (in Montreal).

Thanks for the 50 miles in 2 month challenge. It's proving a real incentive to make sure I stay on target by using the treadmill at the gym rather than just hopping on the cross trainer. It even got me running outside today just to keep on track! ;)

Not sure I like the redesign of the Nike+ website though... The challenge pages are harder to find yourself on unless you're on the top page - perhaps we shouldn't bother encouraging others to join in! :p

I do like the Maps function though. There appear to be lots more Nike+ using runners in my immediate area than I've spotted out and about! Although some of them have marked their route as 6 miles by just running around the park three times which seems a little odd!

Yeah I saw a nice little three mile route set up by another runner in the area about two miles away from my house, I think I'm gonna go check his/her route out tonight after I get home from my company's picnic.

i just got back from camping this weekend in the Great Smoky Mountains. we actually saw 3 bears (mom and 2 cubs). it was pretty fun. i didn't get much running in though

looks like they are working on the nike+ site. good to know, but they need to be working on hardware and ipod software

ok, maybe something is going on with the new changes in the nike+ website. i just set personal records in the mile, 5k, and 10k all in one run tonight, and it didn't show up in the challenges

Hey guys!

I want to start a healthier life style. I sit at my computer more than 6 hours a day and I don't get much exercise. I'm over weight and want to have a great body for next year (Prom/graduation ect). I started by buying an exercise ball as a desk chair, which I can do crunches on when waiting for something to load or something.

Anyway, I want to lose the fat around my stomach, butt, legs and arms and running/walking is probably my best bet.
I was wondering if anyone could offer me tips on the best way to lose the fat when running/walking.

Also, how can I use Nike+? Do I need nike shoes? Can I just use my converse or addidas?

Thanks for the help guys.

man, what is up with the 1-mile challenge? i did 2 mile repeats on the track today.

real times: 5:08, 5:05
ipod times: 5:11, 5:06

i finally got it calibrated right. who knows how long it will last.

but neither one of those times showed up in the mile challenge!

I noticed that while the overall mileage updated, the challenges haven't been updating for a while after that. I tried refreshing but ended up going back a few hours later and they'd registered then.

maybe. but the other day i ran my fastest 10k (and in the process fastest mile and 5k), and none of those times ever registered.

but maybe they'll show up later. they already showed up in my record thing

has anyone logged into nike+ today?

i just saw something scary: "you have a nike account, but are new to nike+"

edit: nevermind, it seems to be working now. i was scared there for a minute

I was able to sync up last night for the remainder of July on my cousin's machine (I am currently Mac-less with a Mac formatted iPod). Anyway I can not seem to get into the nike+ site all day to re-up the challenges for August.

When it comes back I will set it up. Another win in July for Twood...;) Congrats.

and thanks again for setting up the challenges. you've really done a great job with all of them.

Added a 50 miles in 2 months for those with a need for a smaller goal.

I've done it :D I feel good. Thanks for creating this challenge to help with the motivation... it did definitely help! And I got a new fastest mile while finishing it off. :D

Congratulations, Spider!!!!! That's great! :)

After a month of not running and starting again somewhat less aggressively, I'm happily doing shorter (2.3-2.7 miles instead of 6-7), faster (8:00-8:15/mile instead of 9:00/mile) runs right now, and slowly inching towards 200 total Nike+ miles. :)

Very good! Congratulations. Keep up the good work. This is what the challenges are supossed to be about...Making people challenge themselves to do what they feel they can not. Great stuff Applespider.
