At this point the mobile and non mobile are the exact same site. Previously the mobile version was substantially lighter.

That said the site isn’t particularly processor intensive, except it’s not small. So maybe the size of the home page is part of the issue. Ads are also perhaps the most intensive thing.

I particularly notice lag with the animations, like the notification drop-down. Are you referring to the size of the home page of the site or the home page of the forums specifically?

MR has always been sluggish & choppy on my old single cpu machines (like my single 867 12” powerbook) comparatively to my dual cpu G4 & G5s which were much better & fluid experiences overall. There’s only so much that can be done to a modern website for old single cpu machines, so any dev effort or consideration I think is great.
As much I'd hate to admit it (right now I'm feeling like I should have snatched a Quad 2.5 when peeps thought they were worthless junk) I wholeheartedly agree.

For now I'll have to VNC into a headless server to even browse the web on my G4.

I was talking about the home page.

Forums are pretty js heavy.

Everything seems to work smoothly on my G4 system running TenFourFox.

Ads however can slow it to a crawl, anything with video and it drops to unusable levels. I was trying to do a forum search and it took at least 20 seconds to register what I was typing. I'd assume that's a problem with the ad itself, and not MacRumors.

Don't know if you folks made any changes recently, but the site now works significantly better in Netsurf than it used to. The layout is almost normal and everything seems to function properly
