Today MacRumors reached its one millionth forum thread. The MacRumors forums averaged just under 1000 threads per day during July, with a peak of over 2000 threads on July 27, when Apple released new iMacs and Mac Pros as well as the 27-Inch LED Cinema Display, the Magic Trackpad, and an Apple-branded battery charger.

There are now over 485 thousand forum users. At current registration rates there will be half a million forum members in less than a month.

An average of over 12 thousand forum posts were made each day in July. The total is now approaching 11 million posts, after having reached 10 million posts in May.

MacRumors thanks all those who have made positive contributions to the forums with their thoughtful posts in discussions of news and rumors and their helpful posts in threads with technical questions. The body of information represented by the forums is a valuable resource for problem solving, not just for forum members but for the millions of site visitors who view the forums each month.

It's a shame so many of those half million users are haters who joined right after the iPad/iPhone 4 launch!

Anyway Congrats, MacRumors!

I wonder how many members there were when I joined in Sept 2003?
Feels like eons ago.....

*cough* FIXED *cough*
;)

Ah, but my favourite of all the 1,000,000 threads? #500, of course.

OMFG! Too Funny!!!!
I have to say that even though I joined 2 years later that I was just like those people bitching about the iPod. I watched the feed live at work (remember those days???) and was spitting and sputtering about how a $400 mp3 was a complete fail....
Then I learned my lesson after the iPhone was introduced. I swore at the screen that day in January while watching live blogs but after the keynote I told my co-worker that I was probably going to end up getting one.... and I did.... after the price drop in September that year.....

So I have learned a very valuable lesson. If my initial reaction to an Apple announcement makes me mad, then it will end up being a huge hit for them... and I will end up owning it.

ahhh congratulations, I think....

Out of a million probably 500,000 of them are needless repeats of other threads and others that are just completely nonsensical discussions and polls, created mostly by lazy new posters, most of them, probably bored immature teenagers, who are bored and have nothing better to do than start them.

This makes others suffer through this crap needlessly, sifting thru this nonsense to find the relevant intelligent threads and comments.

I would love to see the forum moderators more pro active in stepping in and minimizing this going forward so we make it to 2 million on substance not polls on case color!

I've been since Jan 2003 -- everyday since (except cruises when I leave the laptop home for a computer-free vacation). And by everyday, I mean at least 5 or 6 times to check on Apple news/rumors. I visit by computer, iPhone, iPod touch and iPad -- anything with a connection. I have been at friends' homes and asked to borrow their computer (to check email, I say) and then hop over to your website instead! Thanks for the great times and here's to many more years!

Oh... My Top Sites has had MRs in the top spot since the feature came out in Safari and always will.
