There are more open minded people posting now but also more zealots on both sides of the fence. I guess its because Macrumors has gotten more and more popular over the years
This would be the most boring forum in history if it wasn't for the absent minded bickering and personal attacks:
Person A: I say old chap, I've come here to this Apple forum to explain that Android is in fact, far superior to iOS!
Person B: Dear sir, I regretfully inform you that I do not share you sentiment!
Person A: Oh bother, well I humbly beseech you to reconsider your opinion.
Person B: I shall! Good Day.

A downvote is an up vote, just like the new Lion silly.
^This to some degree. However, I accept it and it never bothers me.
I fully agree here. As you can see by the negative votes on your post it really serves NO purpose. Varying views are voted down whereas votes for people who seem to follow the crowd blindly are voted up. The only thing the voting system doesn't do is piss me off because I'm old enough to not care who really likes me.
I think the down votes serve little purpose. Just pisses people off. Although I would be in favor of making it an only positive vote/thanks system. I like being able to quickly and visually see what people agree with. I think keeping some sort of positive feedback system would prevent many "+1" type of posts that would probably reappear if the ratings system was removed entirely.
