Sorry for more spam/data:

Seems like other ad-heavy sites (CNN, Fox News, my local paper) are as battery intensive as MR is with ads off. I seldom have ads off, so I hadn't noticed. But, hey, it's a lowly 6s, so Ad Block Plus is going back on. ?

And, I should add: With AdBlock Plus off, and not logged in, each time I'd click on another thread, the page would load, and when apparently finished loading content, the "busy wheel" would spin for awhile, but never continued to spin for a long time. I'd then have ads - and over 1% less battery each page. Didn't notice any drop once a page was loaded.

So I guess all I can report is that with ads on, each page was consuming over 1% battery, and it dropped to almost no battery usage with ads off. Luckily, my phone didn't heat up, since activity seemed to lessen once all the ads finished.
If you have time to kill, test it while logged in.

Log in first. Then, force quit Safari in iOS (swipe up from multitask view). Browse around again. It should be better, I think :)

Oooo - that was nice! Turned off AdBlock Plus, logged in, killed and relaunched Safari, and opened several MR threads. Battery didn't drop even 1%. Can you share your secret with CNN and Fox? ?

Thanks all. Closing this thread since it's so long, and to have a fresh thread with updated information:

Here's where things stand now:
