Very interesting to see a single webpage taking up that much memory on a Mac.

And 123MB for me. Methinx this is not so much a MacRumors problem as a personal configuration\current state issue for the OP.

My sense is that it's ads. Not limited in my case to MR, but because it's usually in an open tab I will see it eventually. Currently at 768MB and 10% or so of CPU. The only thing higher is news.google.com, at 1,048 MB. Restarting Safari, or deleting the tab and starting another one fixes this for me.
 
For those who don't know -- you can make an annual $35 contribution to the site and never see any ads, ad-blocking extension or otherwise. Extensions might make rendering the page less space complex, but it ups time complexity significantly.
