Bad news

Trust me, it may sound good to those who never experienced earlier Best Buy/Apple relationships but BB does not want them. Their stores are staffed by an overwhelming majority of PC using high school kids that know nothing about Mac but can't wait to trash them to the customers. I want to believe Apple will staff the stores open to close but I just don't believe that's realistic (Apple: prove me wrong...please!). Speaking from five years experience in the Best Buy world, it's a mistake that's been tried and tried again.

Oh it wasn't so much with the (un)knowledgeable salespeople, or my attitude. Having worked in customer service myself, I know that sugar is more effective than vinegar and rarely if ever give the low level employees any grief. I'm glad you have had only good experiences with BB, but that doesn't mean everyone else has had such fortune. I didn't tell the entire story since I didn't feel like anyone would care, and it wasn't that awful, but lets just say I have gotten much more courteous and helpful service from other stores (mainly my local apple affiliate) and I tend to reward good service with return business. I hope this works, I know it can, I bought my first mac at a fry's and was very happy. Of course I went there already knowing I wanted it. I just don't want to see apple relegated to a back corner, or not effectively promoted by knowledgable salespeople. Lets hope this brings macs to the masses! (or at least a few more people)

The last time I was in the CompUSA, the Apples were in a corner at the back of the store.

A customer wanted to know which version of Windows she HAD to run on the iMac she was looking at. The clerk brought to her attention that VirtualPC can run any version of Windows that she wanted.

"But what version of windows comes with the iMac?"

Maybe she wanted the computer to match her drapes. :p

... so much for bringing Mac's to the masses.

haha you think that is bad, check this, when sears was selling imacs i was in there once. i saw somebody buying an imac and he asked about windows on the mac. he said it doesnt come in the box but you can buy it. so then i saw a happy customer walk out the door with a imac and a copy of windows 98 on top. haha. these are the reasons i fear best buy selling apples.

Apple at Best Buy

I realize that some the employees at Best Buy may be dumb as dirt, but I must protest, however, that all the associates are incompetent. I work at the newly opened Best Buy in Montgomery, Al. and I know for a fact that 3 members of our computer staff are former apple employees; either as maintenance or as salesmen. If you see some chump playing on a t.v, find the fattest guy with the most grease in his hair and ask him if he is the general manager. Then tell him to do a CSE on that employee for your troubles. Done. Revenge taken.
