You realize that it is only a 1080p webcam right? Android phones have a very small little dot in the screen for a 4K camera. So give me a break, there is no way that we have a big ass notch due to a 1080p camera.

Let's assume that we have big ass notch due to that 1080p camera (which cannot be possible, look at Android phones), Apple should downgrade it to a 720p camera then and have thin bezels because the quality of that 1080p camera isn't good to be begin with and not worth having that big ass notch. If you need a good quality camera, use an external camera.
1) You realize resolution isnt the only aspect of a camera, right?

2) phones are a lot thicker than a macbook lid, the components can to some extent stack

As for “they should downgrade”… most people who are working with the screen open dont want an external camera, that’s why it has a built in one, and most people dont mind the notch. Your personal pet peeve isnt the market

We have the notch because of all of this.

Will the next MacBook Pro get a redesign it’s had 3 generations with the same look

I'm okay with the conservative design of the Pro models, but I'd like to see Apple add more "fun" to the Air models. Slight shades of colour is not exactly "fun" like the original iBooks were. The original iBooks were a brilliant design for students, with a carrying handle and robust design.

Except that upside down logo! 🤣

What does AI-optimized mean ? Faster memory access ? more processing cores ? new intercores communication channels ? different cores ? less floating point, more fixed point processing power ?

The Neural Engine will be beefier. Basically, when a program runs, different parts of the CPU handle different types of instructions. AI-type instructions can be routed to the Neural Engine for super-fast processing. Basically, it specializes in handling "AI model" computations. That's different from typing, or audio, or video processing, for example.

Just the mention of “AI”, whether it’s in new chips or OSs makes me cringe…

Better get used to it, because it's here to stay.

There was a long period of time where "AI" was being used incorrectly, as most of it was just basic Machine Learning models. But with the new generative type of AI coming onto the scene, it's now safe to call much of what we're hearing about more true AI, as responses are "generated" on-the-fly instead of being pre-determined through training.

It's a new era and one we should be excited about, with critical thinking.

Most people don't like Mac's to begin with, so how can they like the notch? Mac's are barely outselling iPads, that is how bad Mac's are doing.

And what rational human being would prefer less screen real estate with a big ass notch? You know it is not true.

If the 16" M1 Max MacBook Pro is a "professional" machine, then more screen real estate > crappy onboard 1080p camera any day of the week. Because "professionals" who need a good camera, would use a dedicated camera of high quality.

Man I dunno I mean every time I think about maybe upgrading from my M1 MBA I just never pull the trigger. It’s still so quick and does everything I need it to do so I’m just quite frankly in no rush. I really thought I was going to do it when the M3 15” came out but it’s still not enough of an upside for me to do it.

Maybe the M4’s will do the trick but I’m starting to doubt.

Sure, whatever. It’s hype, driving the tech world and Wall Street to the next level, useful or needed? Time will tell.

I've always been a bit of a bit fearful of AI and so have my head in the sand a bit but - can anyone with chip knowledge explain how a chip enhances AI? I thought it was all done on request and return by supercomputers guzzling water? I also have no idea what 'neural engines' on a chip do. Is enhanced AI different to that? If someone could help an old man out here?
Dedicated chip architecture for the purpose of AI can provide great performance per watt.
The CPU is traditionally not designed to handle the type of calculations well; CPU’s are blunt, general purpose instruments. AI cores (and GPU cores) are designed for more specialized tasks.

I recommend this beginner video:

The newcomer here are LLM’s (Large Learning Models) and I have a hunch that Apple will add dedicated cores to specifically that AI model type due to its importance.
I expect an Apple, on-device LLM that can get the optional help from a server-side big brother version, to help you with pretty much everything in your daily tasks.
Where Apple can win is how it’s exposed, the user experience. They have such a leg up compared to Microsoft who seem to apply patchwork design to pretty much everything now.

One thing Apple will have to do though is increase on-board memory considerably. AI loves memory.

I’m very excited by it because it’s a real productivity booster.

I consider myself a rational human being and a professional.

1. I love my Mac
2. It’s not less screen real estate, it’s more. The current MacBook Pro has more screen than the previous design.
3. I don’t want them to downgrade the camera.
4. The notch does not bother me at all.

Because my M1 Max has the ugly notch which to this day I hate and the webcam isn’t even that good so they can change it
They should have just blacked out the status bar to match the notch to make it look seamless. Apple hardware has been killing it it’s just the software has been garbage and uninspiring since they got rid of forstall
