MacStudio's memory upgrade

1. Nobody outside of Apple knows. Or said differently, those that know can't speak, and those that speak about it don't know.
2. No, you can't upgrade the RAM, and upgrading the SSD is somewhere between way too complicated and impossible.
As for the why you can't upgrade, some people will say it's because Apple's high integration and mobile-first designs do not allow for RAM slots, others will say it's because Apple wants to keep over-charging for RAM and SSD upgrades.
Both are probably right to some degree.
1. RAM is not upgradeable
2. SSD is, in theory. But unlikely to be available to the public.
Best practice if you already have a Studio:
Get a fast TB3 enclosure with an m.2 MVMe SSD installed. You'll get about 1/2 the speed of the internal SSD, but for data storage & such, you'll likely never notice it. There is a lengthy discussion in this particular subform about it.
If you don't have one:
Carefully try to estimate your needs for the next 5-6 years. Choose your model conservatively. 512GB may be too little for an SSD, 2TB may be overkill. Getting a bigger SSD too cost-prohibitive? Consider the external option above. This is different for every user.

Can u pin point a link?
In what way do u recon 512GB might be too little? What if it’s used only for apps and the OS?
That's why I say it "may be". I learned the hard way that what you want when you buy it may not match your needs later. In my case, it was Stable Diffusion. My choice of a base model Studio - which seemed prudent at the time. Now I'd pick a 64GB 2TB model. With the addition of an external TB3 SSD, I solved the storage issue. As for the RAM, 64GB is a "nice to have" but something I can easily live with. I am so happy I decided to pass over the new iMac for this thing.
Each person needs to evaluate their needs, but overbuying will cause less problems than underbuying (aside from cost).

Sometime spring 2023 would be my guess for an upgrade to the Studio.

Hi, just tested yesterday an upgrade of a plain basic MacStudio M1 Max (2022) from 512GB to 4TB. and it works : take off the 512 GB NAND insert in the right order the two 2TB NANDs inside the slots restaure the MacStudio bridgeOS with another Mac and AppleConfigurator et voilà ...

not for the faint hearted and need extra max for Apple configurator.
for the average person, is not going to be practical.
