Ok, so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that at MWSF 08, Apple will upgrade the entire range of mac computers; the mini, the mac book pro, the macbook, the imac, the mac pro - the whole lot of them! :)

I would say it is gonna be a pro MWSF. I can see the MackBook Pro update/redesign with the inclusion of a 12-13" model to replace the old 12" Powerbook and I can see an update/redesign to the Mac Pro. The iMac, Mini, and Macbook were just updated so I can't see them being updated at all. I would think that Apple might redesign both the Macbook Pro and the Mac Pro because they are both on a similar but 4.5+ year design. With updates that are availible for both models, I do not see why Apple wouldn't redesign them.

Aperture 2.0... Hello???

Haven't seen any predictions for an Aperture update, but they better get this out the door soon or Lightroom is going to eat their lunch.

Aperture 2.0

My pick is Aperture 2.0 but buttermaker beat me to it :)

I agree, Aperture needs an update quick ... I have been using Aperture since day 1, I've been a huge supporter or it, I'm an author on O'Reilly Media's "Inside Aperture" blog .... but a few months ago I switched to Lightroom, I could no longer ignore the superior product.

Then you don't know much about Aperture.... the superior product is Aperture. More useful features, customizable workflows and more robust organization features. The only thing I saw in LR when I used it that beat the pant off of Aperture was the curves, and I can get that by toning in Photoshop.

Lightroom is great if you own a PC, but if you own a Mac and live by multimedia content creation using Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Motion, After Effects, etc. Aperture is the undisputed king.

p.s. I would love to see Aperture 2.0 so I can get the Flash features of iPhoto.

My amateur predictions include:

Updated Mac Pro with and 8-core standard (2.5, 2.83, 3.0, 3.16)
Based on price info from Wikipedia, the quad-core Harpertowns are in the same price range of the dual-core Woodcrests. The processor speeds would be those if they used processors from the new line that hit the same price points as the old ones.

Redesigned MacBook Pro with Penryn (2.4 & 2.5 with 2.6 BTO)
- Black Apple logo
- Keyboard redesign to new style
The processor speeds would be those if they used processors from the new line that hit the same price points as the old ones.

Leopard 10.5.2 with more UI (Stacks!) options

One more thing-ish: 2nd gen AppleTV & iTunes 8 with movie rentals
(An intro similar to the iPod touch & iTunes Wi-FI Music Store)

The consumer products usually get refreshed afterwards, so stuff like:
- iMac Penryn bump (2.1, 2.5, 2.8)

- MacBook aluminum redesign with Penryn (2.1, 2.4)
-- Combo drive abolished
-- $999 MacBook without optical drive instead (NOT an ultraportable, just what it states: no more, no less)
-- One SuperDrive model

- Mac mini
-- Low end bumped with 2.0GHz
-- High end bumped with 2.1GHz Penryn

will arrive in a few months.

That's a good start, better than some I have seen.

The 2.6 GHz chip better not be BTO on the MBP, and hoping for more features on that 17" other than a bigger screen. Maybe even better battery life.

The Mac Pro updates seem reasonable, hopefully the price can start at $1800 for all the headless Mac whiners out there.

I wouldn't mind a redesign of the MBP keyboard as long as they redesign the whole book.

The Macbook Pro would be 2.5ghz and 2.6ghz. They are at the same price points as the 2.2 and 2.4 when they were first released.

LED-backlight standard for all laptops would be nice.
The Mac Pro could get cheaper with a downgrade option for a pair of dual-cores. (reverse of what's in place now)

Well, even better.

Apple might somehow incorporate the black plastic used on the iMac's backside into future designs, too. (Mac mini's top face, for example)

Oh, and hopefully 802.11n on the Mini.

Now that's what I'm looking forward to. Nice predictions n1ght.

How about an iPhone that isn't locked to AT&T here in the states. God forbid Apple wanting to make acquiring their phone a pleasure. As soon as Verizon laughed at Apple's ridiculous offer they should have headed over to Sprint.

lol good point, but as a Canadian, it's hard to defend us not getting the iPhone haha. Locked iPhone = better than no iPhone at all.

Sprint? Oh God no. Sprint has the worst coverage around NYC that I have ever seen. My iPhone always has five bars with AT&T and there are patches where I can even get calls underground on the subway.

MacPro / MBP Firewire

Just a quick question - will Apple wait another product cycle before updating the Firewire?

S3200, the format will build on the same connectors and technology used for today's FireWire 800 but operate at a peak of 3.2 gigabits per second, or 400 megabytes per second; this is four times the 800 megabits and 100 megabytes possible through the earlier standard.

The IEEE 1394 group says it will begin to ratify S3200 in January but should complete the process as soon as early February, clearing the route for shipping products later in the year. No company has officially committed to updated FireWire products, though Apple is the only major computer maker that currently incorporates FireWire 800 as a standard feature on some of its systems, including the aluminum iMac, MacBook Pro, and Mac Pro.

Seeing as USB is de facto on iPods etc, is Firewire only going to be seen on the machines that already do F800?

Wow, that's very, um...detailed - sure you don't have some sort of insider knowlege? :D

(Would be pretty awesome if it works out that way though!)

:apple:TV probably won't have an LCD screen. I don't think any recent Apple product has ever had a secondary display. They tend to go for indicator lights which seem to be enough.

Macbook having an OLED screen would be crazy. LED-backlit, maybe, but OLEDs are too new to use, even for Apple.

Everyone's crying for an ultraportable MBP, but it could be an ultraportable for everyone, or a 15" MacBook.

I hope you might be on to something....

I just hope they bring out the new 'Pros. The HDMI on the Mini is interesting because then it seems more of a Home Theatre Unit. I find it VERY interesting that you brought up MSoffice2008....

I still think they could merge the mini and Apple TV to make a much more powerful hybrid without a huge jump in cost
