Everyone here complaining how this is the worst Macworld ever are just supporting Apple's decision to leave it. For the last few years Apple was always expected to come out and wow us at an event that isn't even their own. They got burned with the early release of Leopard and don't want to see it happen again. Yeah it does suck that this will be a major blow to Macworld - it may even signal the end of it - I don't believe it will, but Apple needs to release products on its own time line. Its disgusting to watch the stock price of Apple go up and down because certain pieces of vaporware didn't get released at Macworld.

I would have to concur with others that MacWorld was a bit of a disappointment this year... Kinda sucks to go out like that for Apple.

Doesn't Apple have a 25th Anniversary coming up? Wouldn't it make sense for new Mac's to come out on that day? You would have to expect something to happen and that would make perfect sense to me.

I work in film and television, and I tell you - those ads are a shocking embarrassment! The HP executive who signed off on those ads should be sacked. And the production company should go back to making wedding videos. QUOTE]

Hey hey....my wedding videos are better than your silly used car commercials:):D

Big SNORE on the whole thing... I was looking forward to Snow Leopard news or something good about blu-ray. Oh well.

IF ANYONE out there is using compressor you NEED to read the new Ken Stone tip about activating all the cores in your mac. INCREDIBLE rendering speed increases.

I'm not too sure about the HP box

windows home server is great. yes it says windows, but its one hell of a box.

I wonder why the box doesn't support any sort of RAID (RAID 5 preferably). It's nice that they at least allow you to specify folders to duplicate...however I'd sleep better if everything was automatically striped over multiple disks. If you have enough data and machines to warrant a home server you probably have enough "system administrating" to worry about without having to make sure you've duplicated all the important folders on your server.

Does anyone have any experience with the Pulse SmartPen?

It looks extremely awesome, and useful for me as a student.

But for $329 AU I am unsure whether it is worth it.

I will soon. :) My Fiance got me the 2GB for xmas. I start my 2nd semester of grad school in a few weeks and hoping this will help.

I think it works slightly different on a Mac than PC and so I am looking to possibly create an iPhone app to work with the .aif files the pen saves to the Mac somehow. :)

So, basically, MacWorld 2009 should have been titled, Pirates of Silicon Valley-At MacWorld's End

I had an 8-Core MacPro because all eight cores were working at 50% capacity using Compressor. I was so disgusted that I returned it within a week for a full refund.

Think one of the problems with the MacWorld events was that Apple may have felt that it had to time its announcements to their schedules. Now they can do it whenever it best suits them.

Yeah I think it's reasonable to expect a live video covered show from Apple streaming to Apple.com. Behind their reasoning for leaving MacWorld they said their website reaches many more customers. It makes sense to stream a JobsNote to all that visit with a real, exciting and new product right next to a sales page. All on their timeframe, not MacWorld's.

Because RAID 5 is limited to disks of equal size, and rebuilding the array every time you make a change.

WHS does intelegent spanning, or as they call it "Drive Extender", where all the available drives sit in a pool, and WHS automatically manages the data so that even if a drive is lost, all data is still there. What is cool about it is that when you decide you need more storage simply adding another disk to the pool, the server will adjust everything else as needed, while also retaining parity.

The thought is that RAID is more complicated, and beyond the general technical ability of your average home user. Just toss in what ever spare disks you have laying around, and let WHS figure out the rest.

Just for everyone's benefit, Drobo does this as well. Plus, you don't need a windows machine to set it up.

Was visiting my family on vacations, so stayed off the grid for a while...jus' watched part of the keynote now...my conclusions to the most subdued Macworld ever:

- the BEST part of Macworld was, BY FAR, Tony Bennett's short concert; probably the best and classiest crooner ever! Al Gore was there clapping his hands as well... ;);

- his first song, as highlighted by Schiller, says it all: "the best is yet to come";

- Apple actually downplayed the possibility of any extra releases in order to justify its departure from a trade show organized by a third-party. So their way of "following up" on such a decision was to release just a bunch of software updates, along with a marginal hardware announcement that surprised no one;

- they are now free to establish their own schedule of launches, with or without SJ.

Here is to an updated Mini and, perhaps, a new Apple TV version...:rolleyes:

I admit I glossed over this when I saw the list but my dad saw it at the show and said I should check it out. I'm in meetings all the time and my notetaking has gone downhill since being a student, so this looks like it will be extremely valuable.

On the web site it says it can export the audio to your computer in AAC format, which of course can played in iTunes.

Can't wait to get this in the mail!
