Public Transportation in NYC: Besides walking in Manhattan or cabbing it, you can get a one day, three day, weekly or monthly unlimited ride Metrocard, or a pay per use Metrocard or even the venerable good old standby the NYC subway token, for the A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, L, M, N, Q, R, S, V, W, Z, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 (well, the 9 is out for a bit while WTC site reconstruction continues) lines.....oh yeah, then there's the buses, and car services galore.....oh almost forgot...the Staten Island Ferry and Staten Island Railway, oh yeah and ummm..Metro North Hudson commuter trains from Grand Central Station, Long Island Railroad from Penn Station (and the Atlantic Avenue terminal in Brooklyn), Plus NJ transit trains that serve Penn and the PATH system (although yes, part of it is out of service due to 9/11). No contest.

boston transport more than adequate

that's fine and dandy, but ... who cares about who's best if other city's transportation options are more than adequate?

and that it is. its timely, inexpensive, and well-run.

you can name all these numbers of services and, hey, great. there should be more numbers of options for a city so much larger. but does mw need all that to effectively move people in the conference?

ah, NO.

best is incidental. "good enuf" is all that's needed, and that boston is.

its pronounced BAH-stun

i dont mean to sound biased but yeah i AM a cambridgite but im in NYC a few times a month and i think the move back would be a good thing.

-Jobs wants MW to be HUGE they want EVERYONE to know. and of course us mac geeks know whats up but MWNY dosent even make NYC blink. boston IS a smaller city but that is what they want, there is no way MWBoston cant take over the city.

-NEW EXPO center, yeah i know this was stated but more detail is that south boston by the water has goone under amazing redevelopment. the EXPO center is being built and they are lobbying to get the biggest expos in the country there. MW and LW were intended targets [hunting the big game] with the new expo center comes new hotels right there.

-im sorry but there is no way in hell the big dig will be done in 2004. for those of you driving in to boston ,cool, but leave your car at the hotel. the expo center is right off of the red line [we have 4 subway lines instead of the [insert large amount here] of subway lines in NYC. youll only have to change trains once even if you are on the edge of the city. it only takes me 20 min from central sq to get there.[north of boston]

so yeahi had more points to make but its 4am :p

what i just want to say is that MWBoston will be way bigger than any MWNY. it will be insane. imagine being in the center of the city far away from the expo and seeing other mac geeks wandering around [safely!] bumping into eachother and swapping geek rumors [a geek can spot a geek].
together we CAN take over this city

that's a very good point. MWNY, although cool, is not even noticed by anyone outside the Mac community. it's just another convention in a another building. if it were in a smaller town like Boston there is no way the whole city wouldn't take notice. it probably would draw a larger crowd. i think i've changed my mind. Boston would be cool and it would give me a reason to take a nice little New England vacation once a year.

So Boston would "take notice". Who cares? It's the *national* media attention that is important, and the national media attention would be the same, so the idea that MacWorld could "take over Boston" would be such a good thing for MacWorld is hollow. Besides, the fact that MacWorld could "take over Boston" just shows how little else Boston has to offer outside of a MacWorld convention. Not a whole lot much going on there otherwise huh?

BEN

Oh geez--don't call people dolts. Yeah, MacWorld Expo started in Boston, but it's hardly central to anything. Philadelphia would be a better choice than Boston. I suppose Boston would be so much easier for people in New England and Canada but that's about it.

Well, here's number 500.

what else do you want? fine if world media is the same but im saying i think it would more FUN for mac geeks when almost everyone in the city is there for the same reason. look, im not hardcore BOSTON, MWNY is cool and its fun to do all the tourist crap and hit up canal street but i think it would be more fun. and im saying this as if i lived anywhere in the country. if it ever did come to boston id hope there are some hardcore Mac fans within MIT planning a fitting prank to welcome the expo [apple logo on the dome?]

Look right now it is perfect: you have MWSF and MWNY, what are they going to call Boston, MW*BS* LOL hahahahahhahahahahahha

Blow up NYC and watch the worlds economy go into a tailspin. There's a reason NYC is known as the "Greatest City in the Country" and "The Greatest City in the World".

That settles it for me! If there's no way they're going to blow up Boston, then that's where I want the MacWorld Expo to be!

Thanks for the eye-opener!
