The awind thing seems kind of cool but I wonder if you would be able to close your mb lid and use a Bluetooth keyboard + mouse to control it like you can when you hardline it. I think if they lowered the price it could definitely eat at some AT sales but until then I couldn't justify 200$ vs 100$ plus a 10$ hdmi cable and 14$ for the connector.

I wish

No, they transmit your entire computer screen - so whatever you have on your screen is on your TV, way better than Apple TV since they just stream iTunes movies and music

Sure would be nice if the AppleTV did that. Seems like with the direction that Airplay is going in that it wouldn't be much harder to duplicate this functionality.

I was excited to hear about the ZAGGMate, until I saw pictures of the thing. While it looks great, the recessed keyboard would probably make typing on it very uncomfortable. I couldn't imagine resting the palms of my hands on the thin aluminum edges of that thing for any length of time.

I'll stick with my iPad and Apple BT keyboard combination.

Did anyone see Mophie's booth? They had new juice pack's in yellow, magenta, white and blue in 2000 mA versions!! Way cool, but the best part of the booth was the new Apple Juce iOS cleaner they had. It is an Apple scented cleaner like the iKlear stuff that is cheaper and really cleans better. I fell in love with the scent and the fact that there is no alcohol or ammonia in it! Check it out if you are there, I think the Mophie booth was by far the best!

Ten bucks says this dude works for Mophie.

Their offerings sound just as snooze-worthy as the rest of them. What a terrible show.

the best of show? TVHAT!
Its a baseball hat with the brim of the hat being literally about a foot long. There is a hood that hangs down from this and apparently some video monitors inside. I didnt try it on because, well I am not cool enough to model such fine haberdashery. I predict this will be the "Snuggie" of 2011.

About this Awind McTiVia, can I play a DVD on my laptop and stream it to my TV then? That would mean one fewer box in my living room! (or at least replaced with a tiny receptor)

Also, I'm assuming I can mute the sound on the laptop and control it on the TV, right?

Finally, am I correct in assuming that the range of this device is similar to any wireless router?

im sure now that the seed has been planted the jailbreak community might try whipping up something. it would but the best reason to jailbreak an AT imo :)

Not associated with them, just find the cases with built in battery very useful, and the iPhone 4 series very attractive. What I really liked was a decent, great smelling and better priced iOS cleaner of the Apple Juce rather than the iKlear or Monster iclean. Sorry for the props....

Very underwhelmed by the Mac best in show choices. Either MacWorld isn't doing a very good job or development for the Mac has slowed dramatically. Disappointing. I won't get any of these 'best in show' items for the Mac.

WirelessHD (60 GHz) or bust.

60Ghz? That seems a little crazy to me, the Watchman Radar on the Air Force Station I work on operates at 30Ghz, and if you stepped in-front of it, you'd die a slow painful death as your insides cooked.

I for one appreciated your enthusiasm and calling attention to this product. I wouldn't have even known about it otherwise. So, thank you!

Boom crashing my MacBook Pro

Does the Global Delight's Boom really work?

The quality of the sound can't be good anyway right?
Won't that damage the laptop?

Downloaded the trial of Boom this morning and it's crashing my 15" MacBook Pro i7 hard.

Was able to use it for one hour or so and then -- boom -- I get instantly logged out!

Not ready for prime time.

Just added Awind McTiVia to the shopping cart and not only is it $200 but they also want $50 for shipping. No reviews, video on their site is horrible. Good luck with that

Macworld sounds more like mac n' cheese world. A bunch of accessories for Apple gadgets (albeit nicely designed and lovely for what they are). Gotta wonder what happened to the Macintosh in Macworld?

I mean, if someone is stoked about the scent of cleaner, you gotta wonder...

The rackmounts for macminis and the shelf/desk mounts for Mac Pros were interesting. ESET had a booth, interesting that an AV client company is at Macworld no? I didnt see any mindblowing booths from Avid (protools) or Adobe though which is what I would expect.

By my reckoning, I'd say that about a quarter of the vendors were displaying iPhone/iPad targeted products. (Well, I did not actually count, it just seemed that way to me... ;) )

There were certainly many other vendors there in many categories, and I had some good connections, info exchanges and discussions with several. Found out stuff I did not know -- always a good thing :) .

And the vendors/staff themselves were pretty enthusiastic.

But all told, the show is a shadow of its former self.
In fact, the entire event was held in Moscone West Hall, no vendors or show presence in the historical location of Moscone South, nor North halls this year.
I'd guess it's been a challenge for the show producers and vendors ever since Apple pulled out, and then many other major 'traditional' Mac vendors declined for this year.
I guess you could say it was "cozier" this year.

(what's the emoticon for good, but mixed feelings with an undertone of sad... :( )

Yes (although the idea smacks of "it goes to 11").

Sounded about as good as the unassisted sound, but louder.

You'd think so, but it doesn't seem to, at least immediately.

I do like their single-minded purpose. Not to mention brevity, naming-wise.

I will never but anything from OWC again. Everything I have bought form them dies right after the warranty expires and I sure wouldn't trust their products with my data.

I've been buying items from them for years. I've got one single device that has failed at all during that time, a NewerTech MiniStack v3 that won't mount reliably, and if it does, sometimes unmounts for no apparent reason.

Other than that...

What do you envision to use 60Ghz for. Is this a buzz word you heard?

60 GHz, as well as 30 GHz, (which I am sure Benjy91 knows) is a line of sight technology and because of its distance limitations is really only good for campus installations or building to building extensions.

Even if you are talking about 802.16, the higher frequency signals require a line of sight, where as the lower frequencies (less than 11GHz) supports non-Line of Sight (NLOS) capabilities. The reason is the size of the "band" a 60GHz signal is very narrow, whereas a wider "band" like a 6GHz signal is very wide and can support point to multipoint scenarios.

Keep in mind, that these types of technologies are considered "last mile" access options or MAN access options. These are typically not used for LAN implementations.

Also, if you really want to get into the grass, climate and geographic locations play a huge part into the deployment. Since 802.16 uses microwave signals, they are not great for all types of locations. The option would be laser based systems (Free Space Optics).
