You said so yourself that the inputs would be useless. :D Besides, look at that button. There wouldn't be a button! It would be an actually-useable-size trackpad flush with the case and the whole surface would be the button.

Not to mention black keys. :p

This looks like a right-after-the-Air-release mockup, back in the days of plastic MacBooks.

Heck, this looks like a photoshopped Apple Wireless Keyboard with a screen stuck on it... wait...

I wasn't being sarcastic...you always seem to hit the nail on the head with your predictions :D

HP Mini

To me it seems to be similar to the HP netbook which has buttons on the side... But it would depend on the screen size I guess as to how big the keys are and the trackpad. I would prefer at least 10".

I know this has been said before. Apple has had all its life to enter the cheap computer market, why would this year's MW be any different? Same goes for the iPhone Nano, in my opinion. I'm afraid the same would go for the xMac, even though an evolved Mac Mini, could be the answer.
The ones who care much for an ultraportable Mac, why isn't a Macbook Air enough? I really don't see a better spec'd and/or better priced ultraportable any time.
It's like expecting Vans from Rolls Royce, and I know it's a bad comparison.

Your mockup reminds me of the old eMac. It is a little ugly but choosing brown as the base colour will not help. It has some potential, I tihnk the bezel will be a lot smaller than that. There have been some very since mockups for the macbook touch / tablet / whatever.

Hey i'd buy that!
Even if the image is "rough," I always enjoy visual rumors and the people who take the time to create them!
so...many thanks for the image and the poll!
Happy New Year!

Thank G-d I have at least one person who has seen that picture does not think it is a total fail,. Happy new year to you too! :D

I know it has many flaws: I made this without planning because I was just bored. Thanks to all of the poll voters so far, now there is beginning to be some diversity, even though there was an option missing at first.....

I saw a iPod Shuffle mockup the other day that was really awesome: a 1x1 multitouch screen that you could flip through songs with... pretty neat! ;)

Ooh, I thoguht it was because I forgot "MacPro Update" on the poll... Well, it is a given because the last update was over a year ago... :(. Gosh, the mods are going to start thinking I am one annoying person...

No, no, no... You didn't forget it; you put it on unnecessarily. It is a given that there will NOT be an update because there are no chips for it! :p

Because the MacBook Air is $1799.
People want a cheap notebook that is small, at least a 9" screen.
And they probably won't care too much about the specs.

MWSF in 2005.....Mac Mini $499 iPod shuffle $99.....Apple's not stupid. The Econmy isn't so hot, and while their will be a market for high end users, a netbook(or a lower cost Macbook) and updated Mac Mini(possible going back to 499 price) should could help boost Apple's numbers

What I was saying is they do it their own way, a cheaper macbook or a Netbook Apple style will never "compete" with Asus/HP/Acer, it will not be around $300, I'm pretty sure about what I'm saying. A small tower from others has really a lot more to offer compared to the Mini and is still cheaper. The iPod shuffle, nano, are great products, that shouldn't really be compared to what competitors give for cheap, but that's the point, the other stuff is cheaper and better spec'd, not saying it works better.

I know what people want, I wasn't saying people would hate Apple for bringing a 9" Macbook, even in polycarbonate, but I'm pretty positive it wouldn't be available for $300.
I really don't think a Netbook is what would make people start getting to know Apple and Mac OS, as opposed to an iPhone/Mac Mini, this last one being ideal to Mac Newbies that still have a KB/Mouse/Display on their desks.
iPhone nano, Netbook, not coming in my opinion. If they are, they won't be cheap.

I think you nailed it. For most people, the netbook size and form factor is an equally competing consideration with the low cost. Apple could do one or the other and maintain the high quality and wow factor. They likely could not do both.

Yeah, I agree.
I expect it to be something like $600 or $800.

I was just working out the exchange rate and do you guys reckon that some countries will see the prices increase due to the economy/exchange rates?

For example... 4 months ago, £1 was worth $1.9(ish) whereas now, £1 is worth $1.46. Therefore, for Apple to get the same amount of USD's for the £929 iMac, they would have to sell it for £1208

Are Apple likely to increase the price to keep their profit margins or do you think that in the interest of the economy, they'll keep the prices as they are for now?

it seems to me that we all failed...
