I know it's going to happen, but I'll be gutted if they drop the Alu MacBook price. Still price you pay for needing something new.

I'd like to see an Alu MacMini and maybe a cheaper iPhone Nano, but none too bothered about that one.

the mini is ALU:confused:

Hardware updates

I think the hardware updates are now going to be on the next few Tuesdays. Hopefully the iMac first, but I don't think that'll be until the 27th.

The Superbowl doesn't really mean a great deal to people outside of the US. You may as well say the FA Cup. Or the X factor final. I think they will just run new products out when they feel like, on Tuesdays just because it's a convenient day.

And the FA cup doesn't mean a great deal to those of us in the U.S. (I assume its a FIFA championship or something). Should have said both.

That was my point. A national event bears no relevance globally, therefore is no use to associate with.

new imac?

Now I'm in a pickle. I've been waiting to buy my first Mac until the new iMacs came out. Now what? Do I wait longer? I would hate to buy one now and have a new one come out in 1 month. I've always been a PC user. I'm ready to switch, but when?

just buy one now.. there will always be better ones out sooner than later..

I'm in the same boat, man. The iMac-PC decision had me swinging the the wind for quite a while. I was back and forth and back and forth. Then I finally decided on the iMac. But no wait for the new, updated iMac. Now if there is no new iMac, ir seems anticlimactic.

wow.

here we are more than a month after these rather confident predictions of a new mac mini and imac and still ...

nothing.

I would be nice to hear from someone, anyone, in the Mac press a thought from some of the experts on what they think is going on here.

Isn't this becoming a story worth talking about in the 'official' Mac press?

-Over 400 days since a Mac Pro update, closing in on 600 days since the last Mini update. What IS going on here?

Unlikey they'll release new Mac Mini's and iMacs before Snow Leopard now, so June/July time around WWDC they'll come out

If you didn't know much about Apple and bought one now, and then a new OS came out 3 months later you'd be pretty annoyed.

No reason they couldn't give us a free upgrade to snow leopard if you buy from this day forward. Makes no sense to delay hardware for that.

Apple doesn't give free upgrades like that. At least they haven't the last time for Leopard. Everyone that bought a Mac even a day or two before Leopard was released got screwed (and the fanboys just told those people how stupid they were to expect a free upgrade from Apple and that they should have known better). So anyone in that boat had to pony up another $129 two days later. It was pathetic, but that's Apple for you. They are as bad or worse than Microsoft when it comes to unadulterated greed, IMO. Just look at their standard warranties and then look how much they want for a decent warranty (Applecare) and how much more that adds to the cost of their already way overpriced hardware. Then consider they have zero competition for hardware for OS X and you'll know why they get away with it. Personally, I'm hoping Psystar will win their counter suit and change all that. Then Apple will have to actually offer competitive rates or suffer the consequences.

Owning an operating system shouldn't mean you can make 2-3x what all other hardware vendors make in profits for the same parts. They leverage their OS to force a virtual monopoly on hardware for OS X and that is why they don't have to 'care' unless you pay them to. It's also why they don't announce new products ahead of time. Otherwise, you wouldn't buy that outdated Macbook only to find the new one ships shortly thereafter and you got screwed because they don't make product announcements until the last minute (otherwise no one would keep buying them at full price if they knew a couple of days or weeks later that the new model was coming out). So you find these rumor threads about new Mac-Minis and everyone gets their hopes up only to find them dashed constantly because Apple won't state if/when they ever plan to upgrade them. And they don't lower their price over time either. They are still charging two years later the same price (apparently products don't get 'old' in Steve World even though that's an eternity anywhere else). Your best bet is to always wait and buy hardware the day after the new hardware comes out. I got my MBP in October right after the uni-body model came out and saved almost $600 ($1440 after rebate) on the previous model. Had I bought it the week before, it would have been $2000.

You don't know much about Apple, do you? :p

They'll come out in March or May or something, and then the Gainestown Mac Pro will come out in June.

Then Snow Leopard will come out in July.

Apple doesn't care about us. We. Will. Pay. for the upgrade to Snow Leopard.
