Welcome to 2006. 2007 if you're that picky.

Ha,ha,ha,ha, great one. :D:D

Sometimes these forums sure are funny...like a couple of days ago when in the thread about the no replaceable battery in the 17" macbook pro, a fella went like: "this will bring the bitching to a whole new level."

I would love for Apple to announce an updated iPhone 3G and an iPhone nano both available in June just as they did the original. All of those who purchased the original iPhone will be done with their contracts by then and an updated iPhone or new nano will keep them in the ATT fold (for good or bad).

I had the original iPhone and it has crapped out so I am in the market for a new phone but not another full size iPhone because the data rates are just too much in this economy. I believe this is the one factor remaining that is limiting the sale of the iPhone. Millions of phones could be sold to new customers if there were no data requirement.

I am hoping for a nanophone that does not require a data plan. For instance any app that normally connects via WiFi, edge or 3g could be data connection disabled in the settings only allowing WiFi access. For those who purchase data it can be turned on.

A new iPhone nano could have all the same features as the current iPhone with bluetooth axed to save space and with 4 and 8 gig models.

To make the nano make sense, the full sized version the iPhone 3G could be upped to 16 and 32 GB with other features as well like a second camera on the front and iChatAV (mobile video conferencing).

Some seem concerned that iPhone Apps would not work on a new form factor and I don't know the tech behind that but it seems to me that Apple has dealt with that situation before when moving to intel and they were very adept at helping programmers convert their apps. It would not surprise me in the least if Apple were to release a tool to developers that could convert their apps to a new screen size in under a minute or something crazy like that (maybe it will even res up for a tablet form factor)

No way will Bluetooth be "axed", even the freebie flip phones generally have bluetooth

Nice rumor, but I have doubts about this one.

28" iMac? Funny we haven't heard any other rumors. And what resolution would this iMac be? 1920*1200 is a bit too small, while 2560*1600 is too big. Although Core i7 is possible given that we saw Core Duo on the iMacs before the Power Macs. Predicting the rest of the iMac line is fairly obvious, but that doesn't mean he's unreliable.

Nehalem Mac Pro... February does seem on the early side, given that Gainestown isn't in production yet and most likely won't be released until mid/late Q1 2009.

Apple has had event/release on late February.

Despite my doubts, the info in this rumor is quite sensible, and I am strangely optimistic about this one. (But the last time I was "strangely optimistic," the rumor was wrong. :D)

How is iLife and iWork long overdue? Didn't the latest versions come out about 15 months ago? I'm pretty sure they were released just before I got my MacBook (Nov 2007). I would think they aren't "due" for an update until later in '09 and they release iLife '10 and iWork '10.
There's been one each year until iLife '06. From iLife '08, people are predicting a 1.5-year cycle which would mean the next versions might be due at around MWSF.

Don't forget about tethering.

TUAW confirms that Apple will introduce iPhone tethering at MacWorld. It will probably be iPhone OS 2.3.

The bad thing is the $30 a month to get it. I would never do it, but it would be good for someone with an iPhone and no WiFi for their laptop.

In the entire time my wife and I have owned iPhones (June '07) bluetooth has never even been turned on and I would be willing to bet that that is the norm out there.

Also it would go well with 2 versions of the iPhone... "oh you need bluetooth? well you'd better go for the bigger iphone". It will help to differentiate especially if they finally open it up for file transfer, headphones etc.

As it stands now it is a waste of space in my opinion.

Actually, i tend to disagree here. I know I (And many others) tend to like the idea of bluetooth in-car systems as as means to safely and legally take calls whilst driving. So in that sense, i use bluetooth every day.

I was really looking forward to the mac mini's but now that I bought a netbook from HP to compliment my macbook at work, I don't know if I really want to see one released. If I see it, I'll most likely end up buying one which I don't want to do

Are you guys posting the link when the conference is online? In this thread?

The MacRumors mail is always taking so much time.

I just had a thought about the 17 inch Mac book pro what if the battery was thin enough to stack it with an other hard drive or something?

have at it

It must be horrible that another company sells a product that fulfills your needs.

Well, I don't know that for sure. As I understand the itunes server synchs between all computers...but does it update the individual xml's playlist?

On a more serious note,
I cant wait to see the iMac and Mini to see which one is better :p Steve, my money is all yours!

27" or 28" displays would be 1920x1200—at least the ones that ViewSonic and others make. I've never understood the point of those displays unless you plan on using them as a TV, for example, and need more inches but not the extra resolution. Some people like them so they can sit further back from the screen but I'd prefer to have the extra resolution myself. (I have a 30" for that reason!)
