Not sure I understand the CEO's comments about "...creating a business that is more female-friendly." How is that relevant to selling Apple products?

Macy's becomes the first department store to sell outdated Macs.

What's more outdated is your comment. Everybody has heard the whine a thousand times.

Pretty obvious, there are some women who don't shop at Apple Stores but do at Macy's. Ergo, if you put Apple products at Macy's those women who prefer the Macy's atmosphere will be exposed to and can try out Apple products. Probably a great way to highlight Apple Watch fashion bands to women who otherwise wouldn't see them for example.

Sears has electronics and is a department store.

JCP is considering entering the appliance market (some stores already testing this out)

Macy's is doing electronics now with Apple

Makes sense. Just wondering if a department store can adequately staff this 'department' or if it will just be a ghost town of someone needing assistance and wondering around, finding a stock boy who knows nothing about these products and allowing the consumer to get false info.

This seems so out of place. I could see them maybe selling the Apple Watch, but that is about it. I can see it maybe paying off over the holiday season but through the majority of the year I just don't see many people going to pick up a pair of jeans and grabbing a new iMac at the same time.
Why can't you just go to buy a Mac?

Every customer going through this store sees Apple products all grouped together and laid out and can use them. There are people who don't use Apple products or avoid Apple stores or who don't get time to go through the crowds there. These people may see the Apple stuff and use one or two. They may order there or it may inspire them to order online later. It's an advertisement as much as anything else.
Agreed. I'd venture a guess there are also people who have an iPhone who have never given much thought to a Mac, who wouldn't seek out an Apple Store, but, wandering by this display, it might spark their curiosity.

I bought my first Apple //e at the May Company in 1983. Which years ago was bought by Macy's I believe.
An Apple //e ! Why that's one of them new-fangled machines with them lowercase letters - I don't think those'll catch on, it's just a fad. Everybody knows the Apple ][ is the best. Kids these days.

Macy's today opened a new hub dedicated to Apple products at its flagship Herald Square store in Manhattan, becoming the first U.S. department store with a shopping area devoted to the brand, reports The Associated Press.

The store-within-a-store concept, similar to those found in Best Buy and Walmart stores, has four light wood tables featuring a wide range of Apple products, including the Apple Watch, iPhones, iPads, iMacs, and MacBooks.Macy's new Apple partnership, in the works for years, comes as the department store chain aims to reverse six straight quarters of declines for a key sales measure. Macy's is collaborating with other brands to create a so-called mini-mall.

The dedicated Apple section, located near the main 34th Street entrance, will be densely staffed to accommodate the 35,000 to 40,000 customers, and up to 75,000 during the holidays, that visit Macy's Herald Square location each week.

[doublepost=1476587294][/doublepost]About 4 subway stops from a large Apple store. A great Idea for those who wouldn't think to seek out Apple products especially watches.

This is the flagship Macy's and us a full city block and 8 stories and the 24 hour flagship Apple store gets almost as much business as this Macy's store.

I bought my Mac 128 at Sears. They had a small part of their store just for Macs. Then they opened a whole small store away from the regular Sears store.

I still have my IIe...along with my ImageWriter printer. It's next to my Power PC 6500. Quite the workhorse it is.....

Macy's flagship store is utter chaos already in the throngs of shoppers and its archaic layout etc., but if it works for them and Apple, good luck. I am sure they're thinking fashion forward first, but I avoid going to that Macy's because of the crowds.

Now implementing this in cities and areas that do not have an Apple store? That's smart.

I don't disagree with this. Macs seem really out of place for Macy's. Seems like they would want to sell watches, phones and iPads ... maybe a Retina MacBook, but that's it.

On the other hand, I bought a housefly of stuff at Macy's ... everything from Bedroom furniture, to kitchen appliances. I guess I can see buying an iMac there, but that's a lot of inventory for Macy's to keep on hand for what is likely to be only an occasional sale.

Seems like more than anything, Macy's is trying to get a little of Apple's luster to rub off on them. I wonder if the Macy's near me will get an in-store Apple section so customers don't have to walk to the other end of the mall where the Apple Store is. Reminds me of the two Starbucks within two blocks of each other, and another in-store Starbucks in the grocery store between them.

Weird place for an Apple Store but I guess maybe not that weird. They already have food and other shops in that store.

Great place to shop if you aren't looking for clothes or the bathroom.
