Anything that gives me more options over the awful experience one gets at an Apple Store is fine with me.
A little odd considering Macy's doesn't sell any other electronic items or even appliances.
I have one 20 minutes away and was there yesterday when I walked through it to go to the Apple Store. Mine has never sold techWell, if you've never been to one then that's why you had no idea of what they sold there
Macy's becomes the first department store to sell outdated Macs.
Not sure I understand the CEO's comments about "...creating a business that is more female-friendly." How is that relevant to selling Apple products?
Fry's isn't a department store.Fry's had a "store within a store" over 10 years ago. So, kinda not the first [Macy's].

Why can't you just go to buy a Mac?This seems so out of place. I could see them maybe selling the Apple Watch, but that is about it. I can see it maybe paying off over the holiday season but through the majority of the year I just don't see many people going to pick up a pair of jeans and grabbing a new iMac at the same time.
I admit that I forgot about appliances, but never technology. Not in the Macy's near me anyway. But they have always sold more than just the clothing and jewelry you cited.
Agreed. I'd venture a guess there are also people who have an iPhone who have never given much thought to a Mac, who wouldn't seek out an Apple Store, but, wandering by this display, it might spark their curiosity.Every customer going through this store sees Apple products all grouped together and laid out and can use them. There are people who don't use Apple products or avoid Apple stores or who don't get time to go through the crowds there. These people may see the Apple stuff and use one or two. They may order there or it may inspire them to order online later. It's an advertisement as much as anything else.
An Apple //e ! Why that's one of them new-fangled machines with them lowercase letters - I don't think those'll catch on, it's just a fad. Everybody knows the Apple ][ is the best. Kids these days.I bought my first Apple //e at the May Company in 1983. Which years ago was bought by Macy's I believe.
This already happens in Europe: Store > Electronics department > Apple area
[doublepost=1476587294][/doublepost]About 4 subway stops from a large Apple store. A great Idea for those who wouldn't think to seek out Apple products especially watches.
Macy's today opened a new hub dedicated to Apple products at its flagship Herald Square store in Manhattan, becoming the first U.S. department store with a shopping area devoted to the brand, reports The Associated Press.

The store-within-a-store concept, similar to those found in Best Buy and Walmart stores, has four light wood tables featuring a wide range of Apple products, including the Apple Watch, iPhones, iPads, iMacs, and MacBooks.Macy's new Apple partnership, in the works for years, comes as the department store chain aims to reverse six straight quarters of declines for a key sales measure. Macy's is collaborating with other brands to create a so-called mini-mall.
The dedicated Apple section, located near the main 34th Street entrance, will be densely staffed to accommodate the 35,000 to 40,000 customers, and up to 75,000 during the holidays, that visit Macy's Herald Square location each week.
