On a side note, does anyone know the best way to make iPhone wall papers?
It's pretty simple as long as you have a good photo editing program.
Paint.net is a good free one for windows.
Seashore is your best bet for mac that's free.
Find yourself a large image where the main subject is in the center of the image. Remember the top and bottom 1/4 of the screen is going to have stuff over it. I found an image at
PublicDomainPictures.net that's in the public domain and is a good candidate.
Really, the three main tools you'll use are crop, image resize, and canvas size. First crop the image to what you want. I usually make it a little more squareish. If you use that example above, it's actually just fine how it is.
Go to image size and make the height of the image 480 pixels. Make sure the width is at least 320, probably more.
Now go to canvas size and make the width 320 with the height remaining at 480. This is going to chop off the ends and leave you with the right size for the iphone. Save the file as a jpg or png (png's are good for few colors, jpgs are a lossy format but has a smaller file size for the quality you get.
I made an album in iPhoto called "iPhone Wallpapers" Simply drag your new image into that folder. Then in itunes make sure it's set to sync that folder and you'll have the image on your ipod.
If you do all those steps, you will end up like something below. You can also scale move it around if you're subject is off-center. Just try to imagine a square that's
slightly elongated and shifted
slightly downward and that's where the main stuff should be.
A good tip is to first take the full size image, import it into the iphone, and set it as the background and adjust with the scaling and such. Once you have it how you like, just duplicate that with the original image. Since it will already be pre-scaled the quality of the picture would be better. You can do the comparison yourself. Download the full size image and the one I made below, compare the two and the one that's pre-sized will look less grainy. This is because itunes "optimizes" the photos before going on the ipod, so when you zoom in it can become very noticeable depending on what the picture is.
