I'm looking forward to News Stand, if for no other reason than a well-designed app from Apple will hopefully make the cimpetition think about their users and the quality of their apps.

I currently use Zinio, which has a lot of magazines available, but sadly the software is abysmal. Actually reading magazines is very nice, generally. But after over a year it *still* does not have something as simple as bookmarking in any reliable form. Most of the time, if I leave a magazine half way through and come back to it the next day I'm dropped back at their "featured" page and have to browse through all of my magazines to find the one i was reading, and flip through to find what page I'd got up to. Their tech support and even one of their directors have known about it for over 6 months, promised to look into it, and yet it's still broken.

Even if subscriptions are more expensive from Apple's store, i'd rather pay the extra unless the quality of the competition improves markedly.

Here's hoping!

I use Zinio, too. The pictures look amazing, but it will be nice to have more choices and maybe more selections. I find that the prices are very reasonable. I also get my local newspaper via the iPad (not on Zinio, though).

Zinio is one of my favorite apps. It has replaced the stacks of magazines I used to have laying around. Also, if I want to read the November 2010 issue of a magazine, it is always at my finger tips.

The only downside is the fact that it is hard to read in the sun and I would worry more about it getting wet than a $5 paper magazine. I usually keep something around in a paper version for those purposes. There are a couple mags I like that are not on the iPad, so I usually just keep them around for outdoor use.

Magazines initially thought they would get away with it but it backfired

In the last 6 months, most magazines i have decided to let print subscribers get online free.

It is turning around towards most if not all doing so
