Yesterday I was able to finally take my iPad Pro with MK out. I took the dog to be groomed. While waiting for the dog, I stopped at a nearby Dunkin and had breakfast and used the iPad during the time answering/composing emails, Facebook, you tube, Used Agenda and Excel a little. When the call came that the dog was ready, I had been using the iPad with the keyboard for slightly over 3 hours. Battery indicator was at 71% which I thought was pretty good. I have not experienced the battery drain while the iPad was off with the MK attached, unless I have received a lot of notifications and then it is only a percentage point or two. I am using a 2018 IPP (11").

I've kept my IPP off and unattached from the MK for a couple of days, periodically turning it on to find that the battery is holding up well. It takes a few seconds for the Apple to show up when I hold down the button on the top, which has been normal. I mention it because I found that when I had the IPP off but attached to the MK, that interval was much shorter, suggesting to me that there may be something about having the device attached and in contact with the Smart Connector that causes the IPP to be in more of a "standby" mode rather than truly off.
Does that make sense?

I know it’s been stated in this thread before but I had never experienced or at least I’d never noticed it until tonight. I using my iPad and let the iPad go to sleep but noticed that the keyboard light was still on. It’s hard to tell if you don’t use the keyboard backlight up very bright so I could definitely see this causing drain when the iPad is asleep and closed because you couldn’t tell if you closed it up. Hopefully just a bug that can be fixed in a software update.

Thanks for the report! I really appreciate the data point. I’m still on the fence, using a Mac keyboard/trackpad and easel stand with my 2020 IPP while the bugs shake out.

Ok, you can call ma Crazy...really ;) It is the same over a longer distance....:(

Thought I’d provide an update after using the replacement MKB for a while now. I am convinced that my original unit was faulty. Now with more regular use for a much longer time, the battery drain seems quite normal and expected to me. It is slightly worse the SKB and this is to be expected given the presence and use of a trackpad. As I’ve stated earlier, I do not use keyboard backlighting at all and have it set to off (down to zero). I’m happy with this MKB and glad I got a replacement.
