Apple has always been stingy with RAM, and will remain so forever.

Let me fix that for you. "Apple has always been EFFICIENT with its RAM usage, and will remain so forever."

Why do people have such a hard time understanding that not everyone needs 32/64GB of RAM. Those that need 128GB can get it. Those that do not, don't need to pay for it.

If I was in the market today I'd be looking seriously at a Mac mini with two 4K displays. Once Apple completely cuts off support for Intel Macs that's probably the direction I'll be heading.
I replaced an 2019 Intel MBP with a M2 Mac Mini and am loving the experience.

For those that complain about flexibility why would you buy a computer with an integrated display. I have a 2010 Thunderbolt Display that is still functional and has been donated down through two friends.

This makes a mockery of Apple's (so called) green credentials. No reason, other than greed, not to switch to USB C.
How do you figure that? You want more people to replace existing hardware sooner or use it longer?

It doesn’t matter much. These are devices used on the desktop where having an extra cable is no great hardship. It matters more on mobile devices where you need to carry the cables with you.

In any case, they will update them next year, most likely in the spring with the other Macs. In the meantime, we can all just chill out.

Whelp, guess I’m not replacing my dying Magic Mouse with an upgraded model with a reasonably designed recharge port placement after all.

Any suggestions for a none Apple mouse that works with lefties and feels like a Magic Mouse in the hand?
Get a refurbed mouse for now for $50 and then get the upgraded one later?

If you know anyone else with a Mac, you might check if they have a leftover mouse. A lot of people get them and then move on to something else. The Apple mouse is an acquired taste.

I didn't expect an announcement in the keynote, but I was sure the accessories would have been silently updated to USB-C.
Doesn't the EU regulation impose the same thing to accessories?

The driving ambition behind the EU mandate (to standardise on USB C) was to reduce e-waste. Apple are not following that lead.

To answer your questions:
That’s how I figured it. I never mentioned replacing hardware - that is your overreaching assumption based on my point of view of Apple’s greed.

Lossless audio for a device that doesn’t exist and most people won’t be purchasing? Are you grasping at straws?
is that not a new feature? if not, why are so many complaining that apple added this feature in such a short time since the last release? I'll refer you to the MacRumors thread about it.

Talk to anyone about the new iPhones. The number one feature everyone loves is the usb c port.

I talked to my coworker. he's complaining that he has to throw away all of his good lightning cables. you're wrong again.

Rather than wireless charging, which is inefficient and requires a lot of special hardware, both the mouse and keyboard could easily sip up energy from a few small solar cells. They're very low power products, and ambient lighting while sitting unused is plenty to keep the batteries topped-off.

Logitech used to make a solar keyboard which was great. And I think Samsung is putting a small solar cell into some of their TV removes these days. For small lower-power accessories like this, solar is the way to go.

I don't mind solar. I own a Logitech solar keyboard. stick the solar cells on the spacebar and job done.

Fair enough for wireless charging, although I don't see Apple implementing that anytime soon.

But iMac is bundled with Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse/Trackpad, so changing the port makes no difference for the customer, they will get the accessories anyway
people buy it separately too. if one lightning device breaks, they'll feel compelled to upgrade mouse/trackpad/keyboard to usb-c, making more ewaste.

Yea, I'm actually pretty surprised there aren't more solar keyboards. It seems like such a no-brainer.

My grandpa used to get annoyed at his keyboard running out of batteries. He wasn't good with computers, and would miss the warnings, and ultimately get frustrated when the keyboard suddenly stopped working. I got him a logitech solar keyboard and it's been smooth sailing for probably close to a decade now.

The amount of RAM that the iPhone Pro's get has doubled (4GB-->8GB) in 4 years... whilst Macs has had 8GB since... like 2013.

Sorry, but getting 16GB standard on a full-fledge "Pro" computer is not asking much.
