Magic mouse disconnecting

Weird I am using a non apple mouse. old logitech and it has no problems whatsoever though it is USB. But both Apple mice USB and BT had problems I wonder if anything is in the code or something. its weird that using an Apple mouse has problems and not using one is perfect.

I’ve been running into issues too where my Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse 2 randomly disconnect and don’t work until restarting. I’ve found out now that instead of restarting I can shift+option click on the Bluetooth menu item then go to Debug > Reset the Bluetooth Module and then my devices reconnect.

I've done the debug and also went into the library to delete some plist/driver stuff but nothing seems to fix it.

Yeah I spoke too soon, seems short lived for me After I reset it, it worked for a few days, then the devices disconnected again. The "good news" is I can just reset it again and it starts working. Just a tip, when you hit the 'Reset the Bluetooth Module' it may take a while so just keep clicking away on your mouse and keyboard and it will eventually reconnect.

I have recently updated and the magic mouse still has problems. any ideas? Also a usb mouse jumps around as well.

A few things to try:

1. Try doing a SMC reset.
2. Try booting into safe mode and see if the disconnect issue happens in safe mode.
3. Try creating a new user account on your computer, log out of your user account and login to the new user account, see if the mouse still disconnects.

Here also: I upgraded to 10.15.4 the mouse is still disconnecting, but less often than with 10.15.3.
And I have always 2 disconnect/reconnect cycles in a row.

Have a new Mac mini 2020 (bought directly from Apple). Bought the Space Gray Keyboard (why the 20 dollar difference from the White Keyboard?) and a White Magic Mouse 2 from Micro Center. I placed my Mac mini off to the left of my desk. My mouse is approximately 27 inches from the Mac mini.

Noticed the Bluetooth mouse disconnecting after two weeks and progressively getting worse. Noticed when the mouse is directly in front of the Mac mini, it connects immediately. Read Cobra521 post from April 8 and decided to point the front of the Mac mini towards the mouse and keyboard. I'll let you know if this solves my Magic Mouse problem.

My Magic Mouse is still somewhat flaky. It works well part of the time - even after Apple replaced it with a non Mac Pro 7.1 version - and at other times its sensitivity to my hand or finger movements is unreliable.

Probably the most meaningful thing I did was to move my cordless phone base a few feet further away. Maybe the next OS update will help, maybe not...

I'm going to try a Logitech MX Master 3 mouse when it arrives. Better to switch than to stay with a frustrating input device.

I can't speak to iMac or other Macs, but the recent Mac Minis have bluetooth issues which you can read more about in the Mac Mini forum. Members have found various workarounds there that you may find helpful.

I have not tried safe mode but the new update doesn't do anything to fix it. I might as well keep using my logitech mouse.

If an OS has a bug that affects only 10% of its users, that would still represent millions of people affected and if serious enough would certainly require an OS fix.

FYI I have been experiencing this exact same issue with magic mouse 2 randomly disconnecting a few times a day, ever since updating my MBP to Catalina. It interrupted my workflow so often that I stole my wife's trackpad temporarily.

I know this is an old thread. I'm gonna reply anyway hoping that it would be helpful to someone. I had the same problem with Mac Mini M1 with both my magic track pad and magic mouse. It kept disconnecting few times every minute. I had to use the magic trackpad plugged in because it got so annoying. I tried bluetooth reset and usb disconnecting and all the other suggestions you can find in here.

Finally, I remembered something apple support person told me. she said that it can be my monitor. Weird ryt? I didn't believe her at the moment. Anyway, I bought a USB-C hub with an HDMI connection and moved my monitor to that.... all the bluetooth issues are SOLVED now. no more bluetooth connection issues. I guess I'm buying a thunderbolt monitor.

Here's the summary for the people who doesn't like to read,

1. It's your HDMI monitor
2. Buy a USB-C hub with a HDMI port
3. Move your monitor to the HDMI port on the hub

Sadly, my HDMI monitor is already plugged into a USB-C hub. Just as lfaa said above, it’s always two cycles...every couple hours, it disconnects, reconnects after 5-10 seconds, then repeats a few seconds later.

I've accumulated three Magic Mice over the years - two of version 1, and a version 2. It happens with all of them. It happened with my 2018 Mini, and now with my M1 MacBook, same peripherals apart from the USB-C hub (on the MacBook) and an eGPU (on the Mini). The problem has followed me across three houses and two states.

At this point, I’d love to find a wired multitouch mouse.
