Over the past few years I got into reviewing keyboards and mice on YouTube. I finally got around to reviewing the magic mouse and my God is it bad...
The mouse feet are the roughest I've ever seen. It's like pushing a cheese grader across a rough surface compared to most mice by companies that have been regularly improving their mice. When you click the mouse button it can literally pinch your thumb between the metal base and button top shell. The sensor is bad. People literally mac videos on how to relieve hand cramps from it like it's normal. So crazy. Zero attempt to be ergonomic. I thought apple was a big company. Like what the hell including that with ever iMac.

The gesture controls are the only thing I like about the Magic Mouse. You can can do a lot with a few different swipes. Having said that, ergonomically, it’s terrible to hold. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I bought an mx master 3.

It's comedically bad and a relic of the Steve Jobs war on buttons. I can't use one for more than 10 minutes without a cramp. Fortunately, please seem to like them so when I listed mine for sale it sold quickly.

Perhaps a post-Ive Apple will come up with something better?

Yet you dwell on the negative so much /s…

* It looks cute - and when you unplug it from the charging cable you get the same warm fuzzy feeling you‘d get from turning a stranded tortoise the right way up.

* It’s also ambisinister - equally uncomfortable in left or right hands - and it’s harder to make an ergonomic mouse without making handist assumptions - doubt Apple could get away with shipping a right-handed mouse as standard.

* If you can do a Vulcan salute unaided then you’ll love the gestures.

* Save finger-strain when clicking by just bumping it up against your keyboard to register a click!

* Battery clips 99.9% less likely to lose their mojo than previous AA-cell powered version.

* Less likely to burst into song and fight evil than previous Mighty Mouse.

* We’ve included it with your iMac, so if you reject it, it will go to landfill and kill dolphins (probably). So you *will* love it. Unless you hate dolphins… you don’t hate flipper, do you?

Apple know their user-base. :->

…for non-conformists, if you buy an iMac just take the discount on the Magic Trackpad and get something which is actually best-in-class - if you don’t like that you can probably get your money back on eBay.

I guess Apple have listened to criticism, though, because they’ve shipped the new $2000 Mac Studio without mouse or keyboard. It was going to cost $2173.37 but they left out the keyboard and mouse and passed the savings on to the customer, at least that’s what the scary giant rabbit who lives in my toilet says. /s

I don’t use one personally, but I’ve always found them comfortable. I use a vertical mouse currently because the Logitechs I get for work were causing some issues, but when I do have to use the MM is never caused me issues.

People have different ergonomic needs.

I vastly prefer the trackpad though.

It is easily the worst mouse I have ever used. Honestly, its only real redeeming feature is that it ambidextrous for lefties. It does not fit most hands. The clicks are not at all satisfying. The nub is a real downgrade from a wheel. You can't use it while charging. I guess it looks nice, so maybe two redeeming features?

Could not disagree more. I even use a Magic Mouse on Windows; its the by far best mouse for scrolling through text (code)

One is a finger mouse and one is a hand mouse. I love the Magic Mouse and it's sufficiently ergonomic for the way I hold it. However, my daily driver is an MX Master 3 (not by choice) and it hurts my hand. Opinions on both are going to largely track the way people hold their hand while mousing.

I have a love/hate with the Magic Mouse...

Love the top glass surface, gestures, one button, and especially the scrolling. All so buttery smooth and convenient. Also don't mind how it feels in my hand. I'm ambidextrous, so its shape provides me the advantage of being able to grab it with either hand comfortably.

Hate the charging port being on the bottom and lack of a "pair" button to clear it out when needed. Plus, cat fur gets stuck in the little optical sensor hole, so I'm constantly blowing it clear so my mouse will track properly. Cheaper mice I've used in the past don't seem to have much trouble with the cat fur.

I have two of them. One of my bosses absolutely hates them, so I was able to take the ones that came with her last two iMacs. This way I've always got a hot spare charged and ready when the one I'm using dies. Pretty stupid setup, but for the price I paid, I'm happy with it!

I love mine and think it works, feels, and looks great. I use 2 different mice at work. A microsoft and a nice LG. I like the magic mouse much better and wish I could use it at work.

So no I don't think the Magic Mouse is funny at all...

I have long thought that there are two ways that people hold a mouse - the "cup it in your palm" method and the "use your fingertips" approach. I am the latter, and for me, the Magic Mouse is awesome. I have tried palming the MM, and it's nearly impossible to use that way... while I won't say "you're holding it wrong" to the palmers, but I guess the MM is not for everyone...

Like @izzle22, I love mine (have one for each of my Macs - 4 of them).

It grows on you. I wasn't a big fan at first, I got used to it.

I just like that it comes with a braided USB-C to lightning cable, that's my main iPhone charger now lol

I've tried the Magic Mouse in total 3 times. The first 2 times I had to return it because it felt terrible compared to my Mx Master 3. Now on my 3rd run, I've started using it with my iMac M1 (because well... its part of the package) and I surprisingly I quite like it. But you really have to compare it not just as a mouse but also considering its gestures, which can't be matched by any other mice.

Then there is also this nice window management app called Swish that makes it way better.

Most of this has already been covered here...

To be fair, that’s about as extreme a marmite-to-marmite comparison as you can make… I love the MX Master, but - short of weird and wonderful anti-RSI designs and gaming mice - it’s about the biggest, chunkiest mouse you can get, and wouldn’t be my first choice to carry around in a laptop.

Haha, you are kinda right that is it is a weird comparison (considering their size difference). Somehow people constantly compare these two mice anyway. But, I think, I get where this is coming from, the Mx master always gets recommended if someone is dissatisfied with their Magic Mouse.

I got my 1st Mac in 2009 and I thought the magic mouse was the best invention ever. Then I bought a new iMac in 2019 which came with the new rechargeable mouse. Brilliant. Or so I thought, until I got it out of the box and saw that the charging port was on the base, meaning that you can't use it while it's charging!

Anyway, I digress. I've rather fallen out of love with the magic mouse, mainly due to having a lack of sensation in my fingers, meaning that when I try to place the cursor in a document, I often touch the wrong part of the mouse, causing it to scroll and the cursor ending up anywhere but where I want it to be.
The Magic Mouse is really not for me. I always use a trackpad for Macs.
I used to loathe mousepads, but I just bought an iPad and magic keyboard and am actually finding the trackpad on that easier than using the magic mouse and I also like the one on my wife's MacBook Pro so I'm just about to order the Apple Trackpad.

I bought a Logitech MX Mouse at the beginning of the month but it was too big for my hand (couldn't reach the scroll wheel) so back it went.

I really like the gestures, and think its the best thing about the Magic Mouse. I dont use it because its too small for my hands and gets my hand to cramping; I much prefer the Logitech MX 3. I keep the Magic Mouse and Keyboard around for the times that I need to reboot my work iMac Pro and need to log in at preboot/FileVault.

whoot! I had a magic mouse a few years ago, then sold that machine. Today, I got a new (for me, bought used) magic mouse BLACK version to go with my 14" m1!

Gotta say, I LOVE IT! The gestures make it very enjoyable for me.

I didnt have a bluetooth mouse, but I do have better mice in my house, when it comes to clicking and moving a mouse cursor around - but none of them come with these glorious gestures.

For me personally apple mouse worse mouse I use and probably cos my fingers longer than most people and it just too small for me. My hand ache, my wrist ache. Apple trackpad is best trackpad I ever use and no other trackpad come close to apple trackpad.

I use wired gaming mouse when I need use mouse (rarely) and just use my trackpad 99.9% time.
