I love the hand gestures on the MM but the one thing that drives me nuts is when you want the pointer to move from the bottom of the display to the top you have to push the mouse up, pick it up, move it back down then push up again just to get the pointer from the bottom of the display to the top?! With my MX Master it's just one push up. Easy. Anyone else notice this? Any solutions? Settings etc?

I literally laughed out loud during the 'Spring Loaded' event when they said "and the new Magic Mouse that our users love". I actually think it's worse than the iMac G3's hockey puck mouse, and I had to use that thing for years. It also says a lot that during the Mac Studio presentation, they showed users with Logitech MX mice.

Apple's problem is that they can only design such a peripheral with two materials; aluminium and glass. In essence that means the current design actually makes a lot of sense since an all-glass surface is soft to the touch and unbroken, but it also means they've limited themselves to any true ergonomic design. Just getting the glass to it's current form is likely an expensive process.

So for me the two biggest issues are that there's no comfortable way to hold it for long periods, and to perform any gesture other than scrolling requires you to grasp it like that weird Steve Jobs statue.

Even he was "holding it wrong" and the guy was in carbonite!

Maybe I don't fully understand the question, but I'm assuming ypu just mean buying a "bundle" type thing with a keyboard and mouse or trackpad included. So no, there isn't an apple keyboard that includes a mouse or trackpad, you must buy them all separately.

I'm curious how you have your tracking set (System Preferences > Mouse > Tracking)... I have mine set to the max (far right), and I can move the pointer from top to bottom of my 27" iMac screen by moving the mouse about 2-2.5 inches. Not an issue for me.

Thanks, I'll give it a go.

It's the least bad Apple mouse I have ever used. When I place my hand on a mouse pad with wrist support in a neutral position, the mouse is just the right size to fit inside. I can use the mouse comfortably with my fingers, and touch scrolling is far better than any wheel. Your experience may be different if your hands are much smaller or larger.

On the other hand, whoever placed the charging port on the bottom is obviously incompetent as a designer.

Oddly, its the gestures that turned me off and I ended up having most of them turned off in Preferences (save the scrolling, obviously). I kept accidently zooming or some other thing. I've got XL hands and its size didn't bother me too much.

I now have a Logitec MX-3 and it fits in my hand SO much better, but the scrolling is poor. I've read that using the WIFI plug, rather than BlueTooth, makes it scroll better but I'll wait until i get my Mac Studio set up (more USB-A ports) before trying that out.

I like the design but the build quality is crap. The click is too loud, and the bottom feet of the mouse easily gets scratches.

I quite like the Magic Mouse, the low profile suits me and its quite nice having gestures available if you're used to them from other Macs.

The charging port on the bottom always gets called out as a bit of stupid/hostile design (which it is), but in reality its never been an issue for me so long as you remember to charge it occasionally when you're finished work for the day.

I have long thought that there are two ways that people hold a mouse - the "cup it in your palm" method and the "use your fingertips" approach. I am the latter, and for me, the Magic Mouse is awesome. I have tried palming the MM, and it's nearly impossible to use that way... while I won't say "you're holding it wrong" to the palmers, but I guess the MM is not for everyone...

Like @izzle22, I love mine (have one for each of my Macs - 4 of them).
Exactly this. I have the MX Master mouse that so many people love and it doesn't work nearly as well for me as the Magic Mouse because I use a fingertip grip. (I also have the Logitech MX Anywhere, which I prefer to the Master for that reason.) And while a person's grip is a somewhat subjective decision, there are advantages to a fingertip grip (try gripping a pencil with the palm of your hand and you'll see what I mean).

I do think it's past time Apple updated the Magic Mouse, and that there are multiple improvements that could be made. But it works quite well for me.

Thanks for this. Been using for a few days now and much better with everything set to the max. I now think I like the MM!

Been using the Magic Mouse v1 for the last decade and a thin product catalog of a random company as the mat. You need to find the right surface with the right texture with the right coating otherwise it's a pain to use. BTT app with a faster tracking speed is a must too. You need to carry a set of rechargable batteries on your backpack too (~15-20 days of battery life for my usage).

Wish there was a better alternative but wheelless scrolling and hand gestures are indispensable for my daily use.

Yep, one of their worst devices ever.
Let’s not forget the charging port on the bottom of the mouse.
I used the Magic Mouse for maybe 3 days before grabbing the perfect (for me) mouse from Staples.
It’s a smallish Logitech I can control with my fingers, no need for running my hand and forearm all over the place. Bluetooth, and best to me takes AA battery so never forget to charge.
