Magic Mouse jitters

Just got a 2018 Mac Mini and Magic Mouse 2. I’m using a 4K tv driven by HDMI at 60hz. The Mouse is great except for one issue. Just touching the mouse causes a slight horizontal scroll to occur which can shift the open window contents a bit. This is especially annoying in a Finder window that is wide enough to have a horizontal scroll bar.

The Apple store already replaced it once, but the issue remained. Is this a common thing?

"You're holding it wrong."

No, but seriously: The top of the Magic Mouse is a capacitive touch sensor that can be used for finger gestures and for scrolling. It's been a while since I used it (I switched to a Magic Trackpad many years ago), but I'd say if you experienced the same symptoms with two devices, then the devices work as intended. Unfortunately how the device is intended to be used may or may not overlap with how you usually use such devices, and the answer may simply be to switch back to whatever pointing device you're used to.

Sometimes its enough to go back a page in Safari, which can be frustrating if you are filling out a form. Wish there was a way to define dead zones so that just holding the mouse doesn’t accidentally activate a swipe action.

I tried the regular stuff, removing nearby WIFI sources, and trying to train my hand movements. In the end, it won. I returned it and am using a Logitech Vertical. Works perfectly.

I would always go for a Magic Trackpad over the Magic Mouse. The v1 ones work great.
