My Magic Trackpad 1, keeps disconnecting after I updated to El Capitan. I replaced the batteries a few times to make sure it wasn't that. It connects for a second, the disconnects. Then says it's connected but the green light still flashes and the cursor does not move. Don't really feel like spending $120 on the new model, and theres no reason that I should have to. Theres no reason it should be disconnecting like this, I really don't understand this. I've tried everything Apple suggests, I downloaded dev tools and reset the trackpad and bluetooth completely several times.

WHAT type of desktop are you using it on first up? If anything but a solid timber desk, have a look at eBay for the little stick on feet. These give a tad more height to enable better 'clicking' of the pad. Also if you are in a very humid part of the world, humidity and moist fingers seem to disable Trackpad 1.

I used two alternatively overcoming this problem. The Magic Trackpad 2 does not have this problem.

I don't know what kind of wood my desk is made out of has anything to do with the trackpad not connecting to my computer. This makes no sense.

Well some of us have leather and no doubt other material desktops and the buttons on the trackpad can sink into them and you can purchase stick on pads to over come the problem.
