Apple make the best trackpads, in the world!!! Apple make the worst mice, in the world!!!

The magic mouse sucks for gaming and I already have a gaming mouse i'm using so I opted for the trackpad as it was included. It's neat. More of a novelty really. I'm looking for some way beyond what is in the apple software to tweak it further.

Edit - found magicprefs. So the trackpad may be worth using for me now. Time will tell.

Better Touch Tool;)

It is amazing, I just do not understand your post:confused:

I think he was talking about two finger swipe for back/forward. I´m afraid I felt the same, it´s quite awkward and uncomfortable using two fingers horizontal swipe. Your pinkie feel exhausted and a bit twisted while you do two-fingers swipe

And I also dislike the sharp edge on Magic Mouse, you know .. the line between the aluminium base and glass coating around the mouse.

It´s quite sharp to hold, and in a long time can make my palm quite numb, which doesn´t mean any good.

And also Magic Mouse just overly flattened, why didnt :apple: design it a bit taller, I feel my arm kinda twisted when try to hold it. Dang that was dangerous for health

How do you flex your pinky when you do the two-finger swipe? I must be using different magic mouse technique than some others posting here.

I like the trackpad, but I fell in love with the magic mouse when it came out and haven't fallen out. It is marvelous for everything I do on my Mac, and I appreciate the seamless control and movement it provides.

I have larger-than-average hands (I am 6'5) and that may make it easier to use, as with my settings an easy wrist movement can move my cursor across the entire screen, and the two-finger swipe is an effortless movement for me. Trackpads bother me because I have to move my hand or pick up my finger to go everywhere. YMMV. Also, I should concede that the magic mouse does perform the occasional phantom scroll when my finger is on it, but it's worth the trouble for me.

To be exact with my meaning, your pinky and thumb struggle to hold the MagicMouse in place while you try to horizontal swipe two fingers, because the mouse tend to be slipped/moved from my hand when you do that .. thanks to glossy and slippy surface.

When you do horizontal swipe with two fingers, mouse head tend to move and follow your fingers movement

And like I said, the mouse too flattened it was really difficult to be squeezed firmly

I voted for the Magic Mouse. I do like the Magic Trackpad, but I wouldn't like to use it as a mouse replacement, it's more of an assistant.

Yeah I second this, I'm really surprised at the lack of love here for the Magic Mouse, I love it, it's the best mouse I've ever had the pleasure of using. The laser optics are great, the size, weight & ergonomics I find to be spot on. The virtual buttons and scrolling are great, a huge improvement from the Mighty Mouse.

I have a Magic Trackpad I use on my home theater Mac Mini, which works well since I don't have to find a mouse surface wherever I may be when I use it. But like someone else said, it is a good secondary device but I don't think it's as efficient and accurate to navigate with as a mouse.

Keep in mind the Magic Trackpads have no physical buttons, it's all virtual. Which means when you single click, there is a slight lag before it registers with the OS, because the OS needs to see if you are doing a single or double click before sending the signal onto the program. I set my doubleclick speed all the way to the fastest setting to minimize this, but it still drives me nuts.

That said, I like the trackpad on the Macbooks, and Apple does make awesome trackpads with glass tops and multitouch gestures. At least the Macbook trackpads have a physical button.

But they still ain't mice ;)

Used the MM from my 2010 iMac for a while, liked it, but I didn't feel ergonomically I could get the hang of the multitouch gestures (i.e. grip mouse with thumb and pinky, swipe horizontally with index and middle....feels unnatural).

I thought the MTP was a gimick when I saw it in the Apple store, until I bought it about 4 months ago. Now its like WOW. Love it! It really makes app and window switching lighting fast, and it feels much more natural to use for multitouch. Web browsing is also much easier and more natural. I still keep the mouse around for some gaming, but that's it.

I don't know, I love the trackpad on the MacBook pro, but using the magic trackpad on an iMac I found it to be a bit too big under the hand. Maybe I need to give it another shot. If you're using it within illustrator or photoshop however, and you're trying to use a grid, you may kill yourself.

Hmm, I don't seem to experience the delay you speak of. When I click on the Trackpad, it clicks straight away. Double or single. Same speed as the mouse from what I can tell.

What he said ...

I even tried to play Modern Warfare 2 on OSX using Magic TrackPad .. well quite playable, I just use it for 5 minutes, and think .. whoa this could be excellent for gaming too

Of course it wont be as accurate as a mouse (I'm not sure though, I wasn't adapted yet). And shooting can be a bit exhausting since you have to tap again and again and again, along with aiming with only your finger (With mouse you shoot with index finger, and aiming with palm moving the mouse). But for sure I can live with magic trackpad even there's no mouse around

Haha cool. I used it as an assistant in Crysis 2. I would hold two fingers down on the trackpad to lean over something or bring up the scope and then fire with the Magic Mouse. This was before I released I could set it to toggle Zoom :p

Whoa .. you mean you can pinch to Zoom on lovely DSG-1 rifle using MTP?
Well I tried Modern Warfare on my local reseller, waiting my pre-ordered iMac gonna be the longest weeks for me

Not so much pinch, but two finger click. Not as good as toggle zoom though, as I have to take my left hand off the keyboard (can't move, etc.)

I'm sorry but Apple make awful mice. It's the trackpad for me or a logitech mouse.

Amazing that apple still can't make a decent mouse after all these years.
